Have you ever had eBay hold your funds when you have sold something

I recently sold something on eBay on October 26th. The put a hold on my money with an estimated release date of Nov 10 (today). NOW it says estimated Dec 8. I updated my acct info and everything is correct. I've been a member since probably the late 90s. I have a 100% feedback. I just don't know why the hold and I don't know how to get my money. I haven't sent the items out yet since I don't have the money and now the buyer is requesting a refund. I've never had to deal with this before and not sure what to do. I mean how can I refund her if I never actually got the monet? And try to get an answer through eBay is impossible. Has anyone else been through something similar? Any advise?

Why is it impossible to find out by contacting eBay? I have called them a couple of times as a seller and they have always been courteous and explained what was happening.

I have had them hold funds when a buyer said their item wasn’t delivered. USPS shows it was delivered and eBay then released the money. About a 6 weeks later, the same buyer then put in a claim with PayPal (how he purchased the item.) That put a new hold on funds for easily 60 days. I had to file with eBay and PayPal again. He lost, both sided with me. But it was a complete pain.

I’d call and see what is going on. If you don’t get the answers you need, call back to get someone else.

Good luck.

I cant find a phone number anywhere. Maybe I'm just oblivious, I'm sure it's out in plain sight too. Anyhow, I just refunded the money. The thing was, as soon as she won/paid for the item, the hold was automatically in place. She didn't put in a claim that she hasn't received it til a week or so later. So I don't know. All I know is that it's done.

They are probably waiting to release the funds until you ship the item. Not sure why but I think they do this in some cases. Have it been a while since you sold anything?

It is what it is at this point. Ebay holds all the cards. Even if you get the money, they can come back and retrieve it from you later.

I will say I had an issue with a buyer recently and requested a phone call and was talking to someone who resolved the issue within a couple minutes.

Keep nosing around to find a phone number.

Ebay now holds the money until the item is shipped. The first couple of items I sold after not selling for a few years, Ebay held the money for quite awhile (like a few weeks) even after the buyer received the item. Now after selling a few things and establishing myself as a reliable seller, it's released after a couple of days.

I wait to ship until Ebay shows that the buyer has paid, but know I won't have the funds released to me by Ebay immediately. I have never had a problem getting the money from Ebay after the transaction with the buyer is complete. If you need funds released to you immediately, I don't think you will be able to sell on Ebay as they just don't do that anymore. Also, now that you've had a sell that never got shipped, I think it will probably be quite a few before Ebay would start releasing funds to you at a quicker pace.

Depending on how your profile is setup, they now have a Managed payments model. Mines setup to pay weekly but there's options to get a quicker payment from Ebay. It's not an indication of the buyer not paying. I ship when Ebay confirms the buyer paid; which is usually before my payment date. Payment is through ebay so the buyer can use whatever instead of only using PayPal, etc.

At the top of the page to the left there is a Help & Contact link. If you scroll down you'll see a section for sellers. Keep clicking and you can see about payment holds. From there you'll see a little chat bubble appear on the bottom right of the screen. That should get you to a human that will chat or call you.

If you have tracking on your item and it shows delivered then fight to get your money. You have proof. If you don't have tracking, then you are out of the money. Hopefully it wasn't much.

But on the Seller's Help page you can see why your money was held. As PP stated it could be because you haven't sold in a while or you have it set up on your sellers page to pay at a certain time.

Go take a look, it is shame to be out of money and losing even more due to fees.
