I did once! I got a postard in the mail saying, "We have great news for you! Please call..." and a big smiley face. Well that alone should have been my clue, but I had just gotten back from a long, bad day at work and frankly needed some great news, LOL!

I called and they say "Congratulations you can be entered in a sweepstakes, get fabulous magazines, and a free gift!" Well I fell for it hook, line, and sinker! The free "designer" watch, the seven discounted magazines, the free sweepstakes entires. They word it SO sneaky about the magazine pricing. They make it sound like it's going to be $3 something per magazine, per month, which isn't really a bad deal. But if you listen closely it's actually $3 something per magazine PER WEEK!

After I hung up, I did the math and it would have cost me over $700!! I was so angry I called the next day and luckily there is a THREE DAY period to cancel! I went online an others got scammed too. Whew.

A year or two later I got another card signed by "Maggie." Well this time I called and kept asking for Maggie and she kept saying Maggie isn't here. Then she started talking about the magazines and I said, "Can I get...Playboy?" And she said yes so I started to get all excited on the phone. Then she was transferring me to a supervisor, upon which I SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN! And they called me right back but I didn't pick up the phone. Boy that felt good! :cool1:

I have a pretty good nose for scams, but one of my former co-workers would fall for them everytime!

She joined some sort of crazy vacation time share thing. She also belonged to some magazine club (maybe the same one you are talking about?) When I did the math in my head for her magazines, my gosh, was she being taken!

Any time she would talk to a telamarketer, she would sign up!

She was in her 30's, so she really should have known better...

Well I guess you could say that I have bought pots and pans and various stuff from those "Shopping Clubs" people push on you.

Once we bought these pot and pans set (expensive) from a young guy who was a family friend trying to make money (20 yrs ago). We were being nice but later we realized we could have gone to a discount store and got something similiar for less money.

Sort of. When DH and I were very young and broke, he enrolled in a technical school that promised he would have a 99.9% chance at an excellent job after graduation. They even showed us lists of companies that "pulled" graduates from their school.

Well, needless to say, he graduated and never got ONE hit on a job from that stupid school. All we ended up with was years of paying back a useless student loan.

I cringe whenever I see technical school ads on TV and wonder who's getting sucked in next.

Nope. I am the most cynical and suspicious person I know!

I know that exact scam that you are talking about! I got the same postcard and called and heard the same thing. Fortunately, I was a telemarketer for a short period a few years ago and did the math really quick and said no. You practically have to hang up on the person because they will not let you off the phone!

***BIG TIME*** DH conned me into believing that FL would be a far better place to live than the gorgeous state of NC. He had me believing that everything was better in FL and I fell for evey word. Traded a fabulous job, great friends, incredible weather, less traffic and no tourists for heat, humidity, snakes and snarling traffic jams.

Almost, when I first moved out on my own I got a credit card and a checking account all in my name only. Not long after that I got a post card telling me I won all these great prizes and they wore dying to get in touch with me. I should have known better but I was stupid and called them, the lady on the phone starts telling me the great prizes I won and blah, blah, blah and all I had to pay was the shipping charge for them to mail this stuff to me. That’s when the bell went off in my head and I said no, she tried getting me to say yes and when she couldn’t’ do it she hung up on me. Being young and brazen I called her back and amazingly enough got the same women, I asked her why she hung up on me and she hung up again, so I called again this time she didn’t answer the phone. :teeth: :rolleyes1
