Have you brought a 1.5 yr old on Haunted Mansion?

Ok, I have a few questions on Haunted Mansion. DH & I have been on it many times, but this will be our 1st time with kids.
1) Youngest daughter 19 mos...have you brought kids this age on it? I think she'll be ok, cuz she'll be with us, and she pretty much goes with the flow, loves characters, loves the 'ghost video' (disneyland video they do the haunted mansion song).
2) The hitchhiking ghost at the end...should I warn DD4 about it? She also loves the 'ghost video' but isn't as brave as the younger one. I'm wondering if I should explain in details the ride so she isn't scared, but then I don't want to ruin it for her either.
3) Do you think 4 of us can fit in one doom buggy? DH & I are average size, and DDs are 4 and 1.5. I would think we could all fit, but will they let us?

Thanks!

1. We brought DS (then 21 months) and he hated it!!! It was mostly the darkness, but he was upset through most of it. :guilty:

2. I would explain it to her ahead of time

3. DS sat on my dh's lap. If you did that, you should fit. It depends on if they will let you though.

My 18mos old went on it and was oblivious the entire time. It depends on your childs personality.

We took our oldest DD into Haunted Mansion when she was barely over 2. I was a bit concerned about this because she was a somewhat timid little girl (at least back then she was!! :teeth: ). If any character even looked at her that year, she'd scream!! :earseek: We took her on the ride and to my honest surprise, she fell asleep. :flower: Never batted an eye. I think you'll be able to tell more once you get to the parks and see what your child reacts to. The four of us did sit in one buggy that year..myself, DH, DS, who was 3 and DD.

Hi!

I must be an over protective mom :teeth: because my boys 9,7 & 4 still have not been to Haunted Mansion. Since an 18 mos old child can take it I think I will definitely stop by in December :sunny:

we took our then 12 mos and 2.5 y/o kids on it the last time we went. we explained it was all pretend. they had no issue w/it and now at 4 and 5, they can't wait to get on it again. they're practicing their hitchhiking :rotfl2:

Hi, we were just there last week and our DD21 mo old rode it and loved it twice. My 3 y/o sat in the buggy with Dh, DD21 mo and I so 4 in one is fine. Like a previous poster said the youngest sat on my lap. The first time we rode it was during MNSSHP so all the Cm's were really into it. Like in the stretching room the CM was sneaking around when the lights went off and would scare people. She loved all of it.

I took my son to the DL HM when he was about 18 months old. He just looked at everything. He didn't show any emotion really. He wasn't scared and wasn't happy either. I think he was just processing all of it.

My 16-month-old wasn't fazed in the slightest. My 4-yr-old, OTOH, rode it 3 times happy as a clam and freaked out the 4th time. Won't ride it again.

We rode two and two in the doom buggies, though I think all 4 of us would have fit.

We went when DS was 18 months and DD was 3.5...they both were not fazed. We could not fit all 4 in one doom buggy.

Each child is different. I don't think that you would have a real problem with your youngest. I brought a glow stick with me and DD the first time we rode HM so we could light it if it seemed too dark.....didn't need it.

As for fitting 4 in a doom buggy, the CM's will have the final say if you all fit.

we went w/ our 2 dds in jan - 1 was 6 mo. & the other was almost 3. the only thing that scared our 3 yr. old was the first room that "stretches"....while it was quiet, she yelled out "i want to get out of here" - people laughed (she wasn't crying) but we knew that she wasn't kidding & we definitely had to talk to her. we told her ahead of time about the "friendly ghosts" who liked her SO MUCH that they wanted to go home with her. she was fine with it.

we sat together....i think that i sat the baby on the bench but later put her in my lap. 2 adults & 2 small children should fit.

we're going next week & i was going to skip it b/c i thought that the now 15 mo old might get scared. it's a tough call...i actually think she might be fine b/c everything is far away. she's not crazy about characters b/c they get so close to her (but that was when she was 6 mo so who knows?) they change.

HI, hope you have a great trip. You will enjoy watching your children light up. We took our DS on at 18 months and he did not notice a thing really, he was not really old enough to know it was scary. However when he was almost three (34 months) He did not say much going through but after told us he did not want to do that again. This year at almost 4 we did not take him on. He has always liked POTC by the way. The other scary ride is Dinosaur. He did ride it this time but covered his head with a blanket for part. After the fact he started out talking about it like he was scared and did not like it but within 5 minutes was telling us it was pretend and he would do it again. My concern with that ride was how loud it was. Oh yeah the snow white ride does not have much cheery stuff in it to balance out the creepy.

Yes my youngest rode it at 22 months. Didn't bother her.

They let us ride 4 in a buggy. Me, husband, 3 year old, and 22 months old.

My 3 year old likes HM. Children feed off of the emotions of parents. If you are nervous or scaried they sense that. I loved the HM, I am always very excited to do it. I made a big deal out of how exciting this ride was. I did tell her it was dark and we took a little light with us. She asked for the light once I think and it might have been on another ride not HM. At 3 she is also too young to "get" the HM.

Our DS (2) enjoyed it. One thing that may be helpful is to get the video of Disneys Sing Along Songs. Our son loves that video (it is really old, but finally coming out on DVD recently) and it shows the Disneyland park and it has scenes from the Haunted Mansion as they sing Grim Grinning Ghosts. It is so cute! So when we went on the Haunted Mansion at WDW, we kept singing to him "Grim Grinning Ghosts" , he loved it and it had some familiarity to the experience.
Have a great time! :maleficen

My dd3 was not scared till the end, then she snuggled into me and just hid I had told her it was magic and she was good with that.

My dd3 wouldn't go on any "dark" rides, not even IASW! We do take our 2 little ones on the "scary" rides when they are napping. Neither of my youngest would like this ride.

Exactly two weeks ago today, we took our DS on the ride and he will be 13 months in two days. He showed no fear whatsoever and actually "danced" and clapped a couple of times. Later in the day he went on again with Grandma and almost fell asleep that time.

My 3 yr old dd was ok with it-we took her on it twice this trip. Also, we fit all five of us in a doombuggy; me , dh, and 3 dd's! None of the castmembers said a word either time. We were a little bit squished, but it was more fun riding together!
