Have you booked a 1 bedroom into DVC through RCI and added a studio to make it a two bedroom?

I was wondering if anyone has successfully done this. We own two other non-DVC timeshares and would like to trace into DVC but all I ever see on one bedroom units these days through RCI into DVC. Since I also own DVC, I am wondering if I could book the one bedroom through RCI and then book a studio with my DVC points and ask that they be next to each other so we can have a lock-off. Has anyone done this and been successful? How hard was it to coordinate?

The odds of the rooms being next to each other are remote.

It would be a request and would only be possible if a lock off 1 bedroom was deposited into RCI, You'd need to note "traveling with" on both reservations. My guess is that your chances would not be good, but you never know.

I haven't done it with an exchange but have with rooms secured by different methods (points and a compensation reservation). I've also been successful staying in the same room when upsizing and downsizing between a 2 & 1 BR. I've also grouped exchanges and non exchanges by requests to get them close. Given that most deposits are for booking categories that are relatively easy to reserve, I'd say the chances of success would be fairly high. There are also ways to maximize the chances of success with requests at certain times and ways in the process. Given that most deposits are SSR 1 BR now, you could even book a studio (or more) in anticipation of a match to a 1 BR. I don't think we yet know what the predominant deposit type will be for SSR with the booking category change or whether it will cause an increase of other resort deposits, esp OKW & AKV.

If it'd be a requirement due to kids, you'll have some risk of being separated but I'd lay your odds at around 90% for getting a studio and having it match up successfully for an exchange secured at 5-7 months out. Certainly less for a last minute match.

David, I've wondered the exact thing myself. I'm glad Dean's experience makes it at least sound quite possible. I was thinking that during slower times it might be easier. Last May, we had an RCI exchange to SSR only two weeks out. I checked at that time and a studio was still available at SSR, and there was some availability at other resorts as well. Based on that, I assumed there were likely more empty rooms which would increase my odds. I didn't actually try it so I can't say if it would've worked though. If you do give it a try I hope you are successful. Let us know how it turns out.
