Have YOU been chosen to be in the wand show?

I feel sad for craig that he hasn't had the opportunity to do this yet!

I'm a MEGA Harry Potter fan (I type while wearing a dress covered in a deathly Hallows print, which I also have in leggings, while looking at my Harry Potter tattoo on my hand and thinking about my very large Harry Potter thigh tattoo and also my large rib tattoo with a quote from Prisoner of Azkaban) and was wearing a Harry Potter basketball jersey and although there were children in the room, they chose the 26 year old girl who was almost crying with excitement that she was even there.

It was unreal and I think I was too shocked and excited to have fully appreciated it.

They do shuffle you out of the room pretty quickly and basically force you to buy the wand.
Of course, I was buying it regardless, but I think if you were a parent and your child was chosen, and you weren't necessarily planning on spending the $30+ on a wand, you'd feel pretty obligated to.

We had a deaf couple in front of us in line a few years back; the girl got chosen and it was very touching.

We are going next week for my daughter's sixth birthday. As a result of our Universal trip last May, she is now a huge Harry Potter fan. We went on another trip in September and one in February, and each time we did Ollivander's more than once. DD so desperately wants to be picked! I have explained to her what a small chance it is that she will be picked, and she understands, but it would be so wonderful if she could do it. I had thought they might not pick her because she is so young, and I told her maybe when she's older. She already has Hermione's interactive wand, so she might be okay with not buying the wand if she was chosen.

I'm glad that you had such a great experience OP!One time we did it and a teen girl was picked. She appeared to be in that very self-conscious phase of teenagers and just barely participated. It really put a damper on the show. I'm sure that you had a great deal of enthusiasm! :)

Hopefully your DD gets picked next trip!!

Ahh yeah... I was nearly crying. I was so excited. But I'm also self conscious, so hopefully I was enthusiastic enough!

I was chosen in 2012!!! I was going through a MEGA harry-potter phase and cried afterwards. I still have/love my wand!!!

I got picked during DISApalooza 2011 where the DIS rented out WWOHP for the evening. It was very magical, and very fun!! There were hardly any children, so my odds were much better! I was definitely planning on buying a wand anyways, but after I went through the show, there was no question I'd buy the one that "chose me". It's a bit of a hustle, yes. I don't think they want it to be obvious to everyone else you're being forced to pay for the wand...

But I *loved* being chosen! And a friend got photos with my camera for me!

(And I had to go back to check the date. I cannot BELIEVE it was 2011! Where did the time go???)

Sayhello

My 8 year old was chosen and he was so excited. We weren't planning on seeing the wand show we just kind of happened upon it and figured "why not?"

Anyway he took the whole thing to heart, especially since we just got thru the first 3 books. Of course we bought the wand and he proudly recited to anyone who would listen about how he was chosen by a reed wand etc...

It was pure magic to him! Very cool experience.

I was at US last week, and I was chosen! I was joking with my husband that they were going to chose me, just because I cannot stand being the center of attention & get really nervous. I walked in KNOWING I wouldn't get chosen, because there were several groups with children there...and the fact that I'm nearly 30 years old! Well, lo and behold I was picked. It was a real blur, as I was so nervous. Husband said I was just laughing the whole time. It killed me when "my wand" was made of "unicorn hairs" - my 5 year old self was jumping for joy!

When it was over, they quietly asked me if I wanted to purchase the wand, and I really wanted to shout "OF COURSE!!!" But the grown up in me politely declined. I regretted saying "no thank you" immediately, but still held strong.
My husband and I discussed why they chose me over the children in the room. Our conclusion was that all the kids were in groups of two (presumably siblings) and one sibling getting chosen over another could lead to a pretty rough vacation and/or temper tantrums.

My first visit to Ollivander's was in June 2011, and believe it or not, I was chosen! Or rather, the wand chose me. ;)

I could not believe it. I felt very special. I did not buy the wand, but if you get chosen, it makes it very tempting to buy one. I only wish I had it on video. :)
