We orginally had a 2br ressie at OKW. We had my aunt, uncle, and counsin coming with us. My counsin has MD and was just diagnosed with an infection in the lungs. This was all discovered just ten minutes ago after my counsin was rushed to the emergency room. The doctor has told them that my counsin can not travel but has to stay home on a breathing machine.

After much discussion with my aunt and uncle we have all decided that DH and I should continue on without them. The problem we have now is that we need to cancel from a 2br to and switch it to a one bedroom. We have never has to deal with this type of situation and our points. We also used the cash discount for the weekend. Can someone give me a heads up as to what I should do and what to expect when I call MS tomorrow. We also have two other trips already booked for October and December of this year.

If there is availability for a 1BR, you will be able to make the change. The extra points will go into the "Holding Account" (unless MS is willing to offer some other option- can't hurt to ask) where they can onlu be used for travel within 60 days of calling.

If there is no availability, I'd just suggest keeping the 2BR and enjoy the space!

Have a great trip.

If they have a 1 bedroom available, you could change your reservation. The extra points would go into a holding account, which can only be used for reservations 60 days before arrival and expire at the end of your use year. For the cash reservation, I'm not sure since you are close to the penalty period for cancellations (5 days or less). Which days are cash?

We have Saturday and Sunday as the cash discount price. Gosh now I am starting to panick. My aunt and uncle were paying for the cash price on the weekend, we cant afford to pay the cash price for a two bedroom. Yikes!!!!

Maybe there will be a 1 bedroom available on points for all the days, including the cash ones. You could apply the extra points from the 2 bedroom to the weekend days and not pay any cash. If this doesn't work out at OKW, maybe SSR will be open.

We are more than willing to stay at any available DVC resort and if we have to we will split between a one bedroom and studio for the stay. I am just worried that there will be no rooms left.

What is the cash cancellation policy? I'd agree with changing to a smaller unit and using the points for the weekend as well. Remember that even if you have a lockoff reserved, you will not be able to just drop a portion unless there is no wait list.

Dean I dont understand the what you mean by the no wait list. We have a 2br dedicated as of right now. I am not sure what the cash policy is. I have never had to cancel a trip or even part of a trip. So I have no clue what the procedure is.

I don't truly know the policy on member cash reservation cancellations. I'd suspect it's 5 days out from the date of arrival but would it be from the first day of your points reservation or the first cash day. I'm afraid it may be 5 days from the first day of your overall reservation if they're linke, you need to find out for certain.

My other remarks were questioning if you had a 2 BR lockoff, which I now know you don't. Some have wondered if you could just keep part and let part go and the answer is no, you must cancel and rebook.

Since I'm assuming your trip is coming up soon, I hope it works out but see several potential pitfalls. However, MS is generally pretty flexible with emergencies so let them know why you are having to make the changes.

The cash policy is they will charge 1 night's room if you do not cancel 6 days or more before. If your cash nights are 3/24 & 3/25, you have plenty of time. The idea to apply the extra points to the weekend is a good one, if there is a 1 bedroom available.

Another option to think about if there is not availability at a DVC resort - try to apply the extra points to stay at a WDW resort.

Yes DebbieB our cash nights are for 3/24- 3/25. If there is a one bedroom available we will use the pionts for the entire stay and will have to borrow points from next year. But at least we will be okay. Please give me your honest opinions out there as to our chances of getting a new ressie with a one bedroom or a studio at any of the DVC resorts. Our arrival date is March 21st 30th. Can you tell my heart is still racing and I have not calmed down yet from the panick attack. DH and I have been through so much in the last three months. We burried his father two weeks ago. A long time friend of mine was diagnosed with a terminal illness just a week ago and now my cousin who is like a brother to me can not come along with us.

For a points reservation the first day of the reservations is the benchmark. I am worried that for linked reservations, they count from the first day of the reservation. Do you know for certain on member cash discount rooms that are linked, that it's more than 5 days from the cash days like it would be if these were CRO Reservations.

I don't know 100% but I do know that the cash reservation has a separate reservation #, you do not get a combined confirmation like you do when you link points reservations. For example, I have a trip next month where I booked nights 1, 3 & 4, a friend booked night 2 (Friday). I got a confirmation for all 4 nights on one page like it was 1 reservation. I never got that when I booked a cash reservation.

Thanks, I guess wisbucky will be able to tell us for certain tomorrow. This issue does seem to make one want to consider booking certain longer trips in segments rather than as one long reservation.

For the heck of it, I checked disney online. Now keep in mind that CRO inventory is separate from points inventory, so it doesn't mean points availability. It showed a studio at OKW, studio and 1 bedroom at SSR, 1 bedroom at BWV, nothing at BCV or VWL. My bet is you will be able to get SSR or OKW. Since you are there for over a week, would you consider a split stay?

DebbieB you are making me feel so much better now with what you checked on. I do understand that CRO is separate. But maybe I will be able to sleep tonight a little knowing this. If we can split a stay between any of the DVC resorts we will. I really dont want to have to move more than once and certainly not every other day. But I will let you all know tomorrow what happens. Keep your fingers crossed!

I called this morning to MS and cancelled our 2br. Then the fun began. No 1br at OKW, BWV, WL or BC I held my breath as I asked for SSR. And yes there was a one bedroom available there. We really wanted OKW so I even tried to split between a 1br and a studio but no luck. I am more than thrilled that we were able to get a one bedroom at SSR with this last minute change. Believe me when I said neither DH or I slept all night. Thanks to all of you who provided info.

That's great! And were you able to cancel the cash reservation without any penalty?

Yes I was able to cancel the cash reservation with no penalty.
