You may laugh at it but surgery on the wrong limb "routinely" occurs. A simple thing as identifying the correct limb by writing on it before surgery when the patient is awake goes a long way to avoiding "issues".

Same around here. I looked like a coaches football play-board just before I had my spine surgery.
