Lots of movies (and TV shows) get filmed in and around Washington, DC.

One of the opening scenes in "Road to Perdition", the one where the son is riding his bike through the snowstorm, was filmed right here in downtown West Dundee. It was very interesting to see all the piles of fake snow and the false storefronts they added to some of the buildings, but our poor little town didn't even get a mention in the credits . For a whole week the big excitment in town was walking down Main Street -- we got some really cool pictures.

"Field of Dreams" -- Is this Heaven? No, it's IOWA!!


"Bridges of Madison County" -- sadly, the Rosemont bridge, where Francesca and Robert had their affair, was burned down last year by an arsonist

and when DH was in college, "Breaking Away" was filmed on his campus, Indiana University.

Parts of "When We Were Soldiers..." were filmed at Fort Benning.

A League of Their Own was filmed in the town's to the north and east of me. My neighbor and his son were extras in the baseball scenes. It was during the filming of this movie that Madonna complained that she couldn't get MTV in the house she was renting. It was the beginning of the phrase "I want my MTV!"

Actually that MTV promo was out in early 80's... I know for a fact it was 1982 when a MTV contest was made with the Police with that very slogan..

League of thier own was out in 1987.. a five year difference.

I was born in Winterset IA where the "Bridge of Madison County" was filmed!
Those bridges used to scare me when I was little.... people would tell us they were haunted.
