Have ressies for 4 people but only 2 show up?

My DH and I will be vacationing at the World in October. A couple we know will be there for 2 days and are suggesting we have a meal together. They asked me to make ressies (we are on DP, they are not) for 4; but they are VERY unreliable and I would not be surprised if they either cancelled at the last minute or just didnt show up.

What happens if I make ressies for 4 and only 2 people show up? Its CP so I have to use a credit card and I certainly dont want to be charged for 2 missing people. If I cancel 2 the day before, if they cancel, do I have to pay for them?

If you adjust or cancel the reservation up to the day before, you shouldn't be charged at all.

If you show up with fewer people than what's on the reservation, you still shouldn't be charged at all.

If you don't show up at all, then you'll be charged.

Do note that the system isn't perfect though, and no matter what happens, check your statement to make sure they didn't accidentally charge you. There have been several reports of being charged for partials and/or being charged for no show when the people were sitting in the restaurant.

*Note: This applies to CC hold locations only. Prepaid (or those that are prepaid but move to CC holds if using the dining plan) will likely charge full price per person for a no show. I could be wrong on that, but my gut tells me that I'm not (as that's the way it worked before). So, for example, if you book CRT on your dining plan (converting the prepay into a full price CC hold) and those 2 don't show up, you'd likely be charged full price for those two. Again, could be wrong, but that's how it previously worked and I doubt they would have changed it when they added the other CC holds last year.
