Have I created a monster?

Ok folks I've been sent on a mission and just KNOW that all of you will help me out.

Here's the situation: I am troop leader for a troop of 9 Cadette Girl Scouts (7th graders, 13 years old). Last fall as a service project they made cards and wrote letters to my brother in law (Major in the Air Force) and his crew. They had heard about the any serviceperson program but since we discovered that was shut down we went with someone we knew. Well that relationship sort of grew when they received some responses.

These young ladies decided it was their "duty" (their word not mine) to do their part. So they wanted more. I saw Pembo's post on Marines, contacted her, and sent an email to my co-leader about it. Just happened as she was reading it she mentioned it to her daughter. Well you KNOW how fast teenage girls can burn up the phone lines.

Here's the bottom line - they want to "adopt" someone in every branch of the service! Help! We have Air Force and Marines now - how about Navy? Army? Coast Guard? Who am I missing?

And don't worry about sending me too much. If we get more than we can handle there are other troops standing in the wings just WAITING to get in on this program. Feel free to PM me.

THANKS!
Deb

Deb, congrats on having such a thoughtful, caring group and of course, we all know it starts at the top!
No advice, but good luck to you!!

I think you have indeed created the very best kind of monsters. What a wonderful bunch of young ladies.

I would call recruitment offices in your area for the branches. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Let me know if you need help tracking down someone for the Coast Guard, we are literally 'crawling' with Coast Guard stations here in Mass. :teeth:

What a wonderful group of girls you've helpede nurture. I just hope my troop is as giving as yours when they are at that level. We're 2nd year Juniors this year.

Thanks for the support everyone.

Debster812 - good thought on the Coast Guard - duh! I'm right here on Lake Michigan and my DH (a state officer) works with Station Grand Haven - we attended the last couple change of command ceremonies. Ok, first thing in the morning I know who is getting a phone call!

ltldeb - your girls will be great. The biggest challenge is keeping them interested. And part of that is helping them find the means to implement ideas they come up with! BTW - one of the other things my girls love is to pen pal with other troops, especially younger ones. So if yours are interested PM me and we'll hook up.

Deb
