Have DVC owners ever been hit with an assessment?

If so, when, where and how much? Do you expect to ever be hit with one?

Just doing some research into timeshares, and the pros and cons of DVC vs. others like Marriott.

Thanks!

AFAIK, there haven't been any special asssesments (beyond annual dues).

I do not expect any in the future as dues include a component for replacing furnishings, roofs, etc. The only possible exception might be at VB or HHI since they are on the coast and more susceptible to hurricane damage.

That said, Disney has insurance and since there was no special assessment for VB owners after the damage from last year's storms, I would be surprised to see a special assessment anywhere. It could happen, but I don't expect that it will.

JMHO. YMMV.

Best wishes -

Apparently, DVC has better insurance than my own condominum here in MA. :)

There have been no SA but there was a threat of one for VB this past year. FL timeshare law gives a developer the right to not pay maint fees on what they own. But to do that, they have to agree to make up the difference in any year where the income doesn't cover the expenses. It would have been intersting if there was a SA because the way I read it, DVC would have lost any legal appeal to that decision.
