Have any of you DIS DVC sellers have their contract purchased by Disney in ROFR

I’m just curious with all the ROFR activity by Disney lately how many DIS sellers have been on the other side of the transaction. I know we were upset that our sale as a buyer hasn’t made it through the ROFR gauntlet for BLT twice now.
If your contract was bought by Disney is the closing process much quicker, does waiting for estoppel come into play still? Does a deed get recorded still in Orange County just with Disney as the owner? Were you disappointed that the buyer wasn’t able to get the points instead of Disney or you got the money either way so it didn’t matter? Thanks for humoring my curiosity.

I just started the process to buy a resale contract at Poly. I am so nervous Disney is going to buy it.

I wish you the best of luck!!
I’ve been bought back through ROFR twice it’s not too bad, I’ve just kept my deposit on file with Mason ready to bid on the next contract, which I find kind of fun. My UY is Feb and at BLT it’s one of the most common UYs so I haven’t had a problem finding another contract, it’s just making the process take longer. I already have a lot of DVC points so I’m not in a rush we just want to own there. For first time DVC buyers though it’s worse for because it prolongs the process and could lock you out of booking a trip at a certain time if it’s in high demand.

There’s been no responses about DIS members being bought back but maybe that’s because we are more informed and will not sell on the low end which is what tends to get

I have a friend (she might be on the DIS, but not 100% sure). She had a OKW bought back by Disney last summer (one of the first when they started buying contracts at the end of last summer). Seemed like it closed in the same amount of time as if a buyer had gotten it, but honestly not quite sure. I do know her check came from Disney.

From what I’ve read on the ROFR thread by sellers who posted their data and then had the contracts purchased by Disney, the entire process gets sped up enormously and payment, closing, etc. all happen much faster than they do with a “regular” transaction. So, at least the seller benefits in this scenario!

I've had several bought back by Disney.

The long and short of it is that the realtor tells you Disney exercised ROFR and then, close to the closing date, Disney will email you a closing package to sign, have notarized, and return to Disney. Disney then cuts a check back to you a couple of weeks later. If, for some reason, Disney is slow getting you closing papers feel free to call them. The ROFR folks are very nice.

The process timeline, before COVID, was about the same as if sold through a classic title company. During COVID it took a bit longer to get the check back and Disney blew the closing date on one of my resales they took back, but the closing still went through. Disney does try to get you to sign a general release of liability and confidentiality provision. I just told them, "No" and they still go through with the closing.

Thanks so much for satisfying my curiosity and sharing your experience 😊
