Have After-Christmas sales become a thing of the past?

I picked up Valentine's decor for my mother's room when I was out shopping a couple days after Christmas because, A, I was out and saw it; and B, realized pickings might be slim in a couple weeks. With the state of retail these days it's not so surprising the after the holidays options are limited.

A few strands on my pre-lit tree died last year in the middle of Christmas and I couldn't repair them with my LightKeeper, so I knew that I would have to be shopping for a new tree the next October if I wanted a full selection. So, that's exactly what I did! The lady at the exit (yes, I got my tree at Walmart) was balking at the fact that I was buying a Christmas tree in October, but I mean....I know how this stuff works nowadays and I'm surprised that she didn't. You can't wait around to buy stuff anymore, especially if it's seasonal.

I am doing a fairly large house remodel and will need a new tree and some additional season decor next year. Thanks for the reminder I put a note on my calendar to remind me to look at the end of October.

I personally think that the stores need to improve their After-Christmas sales and start putting out the stuff on clearance directly on New Year's Day. Take for instance I was watching QVC this morning and all they had on their After-Christmas sale today was health and fitness items like treadmills and it makes me think that health and fitness items are huge sellers for After-Christmas sales. Mom and I went to Kohl's and they had zero sales on toys and what they did have in their clearance toys was plushies and pet toys and no Barbie dolls or Marvel toys were not on sale at Kohl's and when I was looking to buy some Nintendo Switch games because I now got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas and Kohl's wanted $60 for Switch games on clearance. And JCPenney had no After-Christmas clearance either. I mainly think people waited at the last minute when Christmas was coming because they knew if they were buying gifts people would've waited a long time till the After-Christmas sales began because they had gift cards. But I also think that the most popular items that go on clearance quickly during After-Christmas sales are toys and kitchen appliances and electronics like TVs and i'm sure people buy a lot of toys to save for birthday presents for the kids or use them in Easter baskets but I never understood why TVs are popular clearance items every After-Christmas sale

Balsam Hill is having a pretty good clearance sale now and also has a Christmas in July sale over the summer.

I think the fact that stores like Target will price match within 30 days of purchase also discourages them from slashing prices drastically after Christmas.
