Hatbox Ghost Not Working

So glad my kids told me not to go on that ride during our short trip. That's the only reason I wanted to go on it, and it was down! Great. Is this another ExEv yeti? Lots of promise only to find in the end the whole things gets shut down.

So at least he had a face? I was imaging that neither of the projected faces were working, which would be really creepy. Hopefully they'll be able to fix him soon.

I don't quite think he's going to be like the Yeti; for one, if he really can't be fixed, they can just put the wall back up and the ride would go back to how it was before they added him. Guests wouldn't have to see a non-functioning figure. The Yeti, on the other hand, was built into the attraction infrastructure, so he can't be removed without removing parts of the ride "building." So in that way, I don't think the Hatbox Ghost would ever be as bad as the yeti.

Was the actual hatbox ghost always there or was he just not working I don't know the history of it?
Do you mean was the figure always there, but out of sight? As far as I know, he's was recently added back into the attraction. The area where is now located wasn't used for anything in the ride previously. Take it for what it's worth, but it sounds like he used to be where the bride currently is location (see this article in Doombuggies.com).

Yes, he had a face. I suppose most people wouldn't notice that he wasn't "working". They probably think he is just a ghost standing there with a hatbox in his hand.

That is probably true, but hopefully they'll fix him soon and you'll be able to see him on a future visit.

Wasn't working last Saturday evening either :( Luckily we saw him working a few weeks ago. I hope this is something that they can get resolved.

No, the Hatbox Ghost was not always there. He was originally a problematic effect that was removed either before or right after the HM opened in '69. But was featured in HM and Disney artwork and remains big in HM lore. Indeed, he is front and center on the original Haunted Mansion LP cover...and Mickey and Minnie as the Hatbox Ghost and the Bride were used for 45th Anniversary artwork. For the 60th, Imagineers installed a new Hatbox Ghost in April.

This can tell you more than I want type....

I like this picture. Nice and creepy all at the same time. Ahh......

Hatbox ghost was working this morning when we rode. It was cool. DD looked at me from the bench in front of me before they turned (she was riding with DGF) and whispered "daddy that's new".

We saw the Hatbox Ghost for the first time this afternoon. He really adds something special to the ride and I am glad he was working.
