Has the Olympic soccer tournament made you want to try to follow the sport more this year?
Nope, didn't watch it, didn't pay any attention to the outcome. Although soccer is more watchable than basketball.
Our u-23 men's team is out today after losing to Morocco 4-0. The women's team plays tomorrow at 9am ET. One thing that annoys me about the IOC is that because of their on going arguments with FIFA, FIFA refuses to make the men's tournament an official player release tournament. This prevents the USA from automatically getting to use their best U-23 players due to the fact that club teams can refuse to let the best American players play for their national team in tournaments. International tournaments like the World Cup and official confederation tournaments like the Gold Cup and youth tournaments are sanctioned by FIFA and therefore clubs have no power to refuses a national team's player request.OK just for you Buzz, it's on my to do list. Right behind Horse Dancing (Dressage.)
I will say that this men's tournament isn't really the best way to showcase the sport. If I may, I will offer another suggestion just to see if the sport may be less boring to you. If you wait a couple weeks, the European leagues start in late August. They are the pinnacle of world soccer. If you watch one of those matches or even the UEFA Champions League matches in the Fall, tell me if you think the sport is still boring to you. No issues if you do or don't, just that the U-23 tournament with IOC restrictions is the worst way to show soccer. It's why us soccer fans love the sport but hate FIFA.Buzz, I totally thought of you the other day when I tried to get thru an Olympic game of soccer. I love sports; I appreciate the hard work that goes into playing soccer; but for me, it's just too boring to watch. Sorry.
