Well, this definitely turned out to be a trip we would never forget. This trip started when my DH decided that he wanted to take a really quick trip this past weekend. He wanted to leave after work on Friday and drive 11 hours one way, spend the day at the parks, stay one night and then drive back on Sunday! Well, I thought it would be too tiring and we would not be able to enjoy ourselves so I posted on the resorts board to see what other Disers had to say. After reading all the comments on how we should go and have a trip we would never forget, we decided to live on the edge and give it a go!
We left around 6pm on Friday and stopped just for supper and gas along the way. We arrived just outside of Orlando around 5am and stopped for a quick nap before continuing to the MK. So far so good and we were all doing great! By the way I forgot to mention our traveling party also consisted of our two boys. We woke up about 7am and decided to grab a quick bite for breakfast and get to the MK when it opened at 9am. We stopped at the McDonalds near the All-Stars and then off to the TTC to activate our new APs. AP's activated quickly and a short ride to the MK on the Monorail. Everything was looking great!
The weather was pretty cool and it was very windy. We definitely wished it was warmer but the weather didn't hamper our spirits at all. We were at Disney and we were having fun! The crowds were not bad at all and we were able to walk on to most rides with no more than a 5 minute wait. Our two DS wanted to ride the Jungle Boats which had about a 20 minute wait,so we got a FastPass for it and went to ride a couple more rides in the mean time.
We returned to ride the Jungle Boats after our FastPasses were vaild and this is where it all started! We boarded quickly and were on our way. We had a really funny guide from Brazil although with her accent we could only make out part of what she was saying. As we neared the African camp part of the ride the engine on our boat died! Not a big problem, she very calmly opened the emergency cellphone and tried to call in to let them know we were stopped. Well, dispatch had as much trouble understanding her as we had!! A couple minutes later the boats behind us started collecting up behind us an we were the cause of a traffic jam. All this time our captain kept calling in to dispatch and would only say something like "Jungle 16, the boat is broken". I don't think she quite understood how to use the walkie-talkie phone as she would talk before it beeped to let her know it was ready.
The captain of the boat behind us must have known what was going on because she started calling in herself and told our captain to STOP TALKING!
Now the water current decided that we needed to go backwards. We began floating backwards toward the other boats. I would not have thought much about it but all the boat captains were really worried about one boat hitting the other so the entire line of boats start yelling at each other to back up. We were going really slow and would only have just touched the boat behind us and would have stopped, but they must have been told to not let it happen at all. It's really hard to write about all the funny dialog from our captain on the boat ride but this was a really fun ride this time. Finally after about 15 minutes a rescue boat came to tow us in. We were towed in to the dock and all was well. We all received a FastPass for any ride in the park and we were off to the next adventure.
We previously also got some FastPasses for Space Mountain because or 10 year ols DS Wanted to ride. The ones we were able to get were for 8:50pm so we decided to use some of the free ones to let him and DH ride SM earlier. So they went off to ride while DS 4 and I went to ride Pooh! We were all to meet back up under the Astro Orbiter to decide where to go next. We all rode pretty quickly and when we met each other, DH noticed that he lost my cellphone which was in his coat pocket!!
He thought it must have fell out of his pocket when they got off SM, so he went back to the attendants at the entrance to get them to check on it. It took about 30 minutes for him and DS 10 to return, but they did have the phone and also got to ride again because they had to go to the top of the ramp to get the phone! Not the best way to get another quick ride but at least all was well.
Our whole family loves COP and we always ride it at least once each trip we take. We boarded as soon as we walked up to the doors and off with the show! During the rotation between the first and second scene the carousel stopped about 3 feet short of where it should have stopped. It wouldn't have been that much of an issue but the attendants outside of the ride kept interrupting the show saying to keep seated and the ride would begin momentarily. Once would have been fine, but to repeat it every 5 seconds was really annoying! The ride resumed before the scene was finished and we were stopped at the correct position. The third scene was fine and we were finally getting back into the show. The carousel began moving again and wouln't you know it, it stopped again just as before! This time we were able to hear the announcement in the seating section ahead of us. We were able to hear the attendants telling people to sit down and CLOSE THE DOORS!
That must have been what was happening all along. Obviously they didn't appreciate the show as much as we do!
The rest of our time in the park was pretty normal. We rode a few more rides and was able to catch the last show of Belle's Story Time. It was really great this time. Both of our DS were picked for roles in the play. DS 10 was Gaston, and DS 4 played Belle's Father. They had a great time and DS 10 really played it up as Gaston!
The weather was still really cool and the wind was picking up so we decided to head out to find our hotel for the night and then a quick trip to DTD. We were able to get on the monorail quickly and had just pulled out of the station when a woman on the end of our row Barfed all over the floor!!!
GROSS!!!!!!! And as if that wasnt' bad enough, we were stopped twice on the trip to let traffic clear up!! Finally we were able to get out of the monorail car at the TTC! Whew!
Rode the tram to the parking lot and we were off to find our hotel. We weren't able to get a room onsite due to the last minute planning so DH used some of our rewards points to book a room off of International Drive. We had directions printed off the internet but they were WRONG! After driving around for about 30 minutes and calling the front desk we finally found where we were supposed to be! Checked in, unloaded, and back we go to DTD! We grabbed a bite to eat and did a little shopping before returning to the room for the night.
The next morning we had breakfast at Kona Cafe (TONGA TOAST!!!
)and spent a couple more hours at DTD before our return trip. Eleven hours later we're back home and planning to do it again in February, but add a couple more nights this time!
So all this happened in about 53 hours time. We have experienced lots of wierd stuff at Disney before but never so much in so little time. I guess to sum up our trip I would have to say....
Has my husband lost his Disney mind....YES
Did we have a great time....YES!!!
Thanks for all the great replies to my previous post that led up to our trip!
