Maybe a silly question. Has anyone ever just shown up at a resort, without reserving a room and gotten a room for their vacation? My girlfriend and my kids and I might go on an unexpexted trip to florida in two months and I was just wondering what might happen if i just show up at the world and asked for a room for a couple of nights. Any help would be great.

Well, I don't have too many details, since I was younger... but many times when we were in FL, my mother would get on the phone and try to make reservations for that day or for the following night. The circumstances were always different. Once, our flight home got cancelled due to bad weather so she'd call Disney and get a room for that night. Another time we were in a hotel off-site and it was a disgusting hotel, so she called Disney and reserved a room for the rest of the trip.

She was usually successful in getting a room in the resort she wanted. Of course, since there's no guarantee, many folks would be much more comfortable making reservations far in advance. But if you do this, I'd say you have a good chance of getting a room--just make sure you have a backup! And I'd also recommend calling their number to make the reservations rather than going into the hotel lobby and waiting in line only to be turned away.

Just beware if you do, you'll pay rack rate. Resorts are not allowed to give any kind of discount.

Yes, we've sometimes done this, but you are taking your chances. You will still want to call CRO because the last poster was correct, the resorts will not give you any kind of discount.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that if you're driving down you may be able to get discounts at the visitors center in Ocala or is it South of the border.
Can any one confirm this?
