Has anyone walked from POR to POFQ to catch the bus?

All this talk of how awful the bus situation is at POR is totally scaring me, but I was thinking if it was possible to just walk over to POFQ to get on the bus.

Is that possible or a secret no-no??

It's just my DH and I, so the extra walking wouldn't be a big deal (unless it was an extra five miles ;)).

Ever done it?? :upsidedow

You should just walk to the lobby and take the bus from there. Thats what I did when we stayed there and we always had a seat and didnt have to wait long to be picked up

i agree taking the bus from the south depot is the way to go.

we did take the FQ bus from MK back and that was great and quick one ngiht.

The problems seem to be coming back from the parks rather than getting to the parks. I've stayed there twice before with no real problems either coming or going, maybe once that I can remember.
My parents have been down countless times, probably around 30 times since 2000, and they always stay at POR. My Dad is somewhat impatient and he has never complained abou thte buses. They are what they are, just enjoy the trip and budget a little extra time in travel if you wish.
My wife an I lke getting up early and getting to the parks for rope drop, we then come back to the resort in the afternnon for a 2 hour nap, take a swim, relax a bit. We go back to a differnt park in the evening. We a re on the bus a lot and it has never been a concern for us.
We may be at a bus stop for 10 minutes at most, and there will be a family who shows up for 2 minutes and is already complaining abou the bus not being there or 2 buses going to MK and not one going to AK for instance. I've seen this happen a few times. If you let the buses bother you they will.
One thing I've learned working in retail is that 1 angry customer will tell 10 friends while 1 happy cstomer will only tell 2. You are going to hear far more negative reports about the buses rater than positive ones.
Sorry to be long winded, but the bus sysytem there is fine, and if you do walk to POFQ, it is a beutiful walk with a loved one and enjoy it, I've done it a few times, but you may get upset when that same bus you caught at POFQ pulls into your stop at POR next.

Wouldn't the only advantage to getting the bus from French Quarter be to get a seat? Don't the buses just continue on to Riverside anyway? I agree, though, that getting off at French Quarter is quicker and easier than waiting for Riverside.

I do not understand why people who are trying to inform others of things about the resorts tend to be discredited if it is something negative. I am sorry some of us actually are optimistic and still wait 45 minutes to 1 hour for a bus. We are not all those people who complain at the two minute mark like you said. I think that biggest complaint about this resort is the bus service. With 2000+ rooms and 4 bus stops along with sharing with POFQ half the time you can not seriously say that the majority are making this stuff up!! I wanted to believe posts like yours before our stay and I did. I later remember after waiting for a bus for 40 minutes only to try to get on and it was packed full, thinking to myself I should have listened to those people on the boards. (this was not a one time thing) I think it is good that people are informed. It is not a guarantee that they will be horrible, but from previous posts it is apparent you will likely encounter some problems. Especially if the resorts are filled!

I think it is great you are thinking outside the box. Yes we used POFQ bus system. Usually it was on the way home from a park. Magic Kingdom usually has a seperate bus and the line is less than half of that of POR. It is a beautiful walk along the river, very relaxing after being on a cramped bus. If you stay in the mansions it is even easier. We were in the AB section, but some nights it is totally worth it.

We've stayed at POR twice and never had a problem getting on the bus at the south depot. Don't worry about the buses at POR....especially in January.

We never had a problem witht he buses either and we've stayed there at least once a year every year since POR has been open. We've stayed at many other resorts too and the bus system was not any worse than it was anywhere else. We have, however, walked down to POFQ to catch the buses, but that is because we like to walk. We would also get off the boat there and walk back at night because it is so peaceful. We actually use to walk all the way to DTD before they closed the Tree Houses! Have a great time!

Thanks for posting this . I was starting to panic we leave tomorrow for POR

Why would anyone get off at POFQ and then walk 10-15 minutes to POR instead of just riding for 5-10 minutes more and getting off right by your room? :confused3 That just makes no sense to me!

HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

And don't even THINK about the buses, just relax and enjoy. You'll probably be amazed at how efficient the system works, though SOME PEOPLE, aka "cutters" can really push some buttons, LOL!

Sometimes it is just a bus to POFQ and in that case you would make the call at the park to see which line is better. In the cases where you would get off at POFQ versus POR is if you are at the mansions and you usually get of at the North or East depot it might be easier. OR if in our case you were crammed on with a million people and no one gets off and your baby is sleeping and the other is crying and your trying to hold on to both. Your husband has that desperate look in his eye as he stands on a step holding on by a pinky while trying not to let the stroller jab the guy next to him, you might find it easier to just go ahead and walk. LOL:lmao: Seriously that walk was so relaxing a having both kids finally sleeping in the stroller and walking along that beautiful path. That only happened a few times, but I will not forget it! Memmories you cherish when your kids are little!:goodvibes

We caught the bus at the Depot that was nearest to our room--
We stayed in the Mansions and it was either North or East
and we had no problems going or coming back from the parks.
We would only catch the South Depot after we ate (near CS or
TS restaurant) or get off there after parks if we were planning to
eat. By Catching the Bus nearest to our room we seemed to get pick up
before the South Depot (it was the last stop before heading to parks
when we were there and SD was most crowded).
We thought POR was wonderful! and have no regrets for staying there,
you won't either.
If worse comes to worse you can always wait for the next bus
(they seem to have therm coming one after the other while we were there-especially whenever it was plenty of people waiting to get back).
Whenever we were coming back from MK there were 2 busses that showed up within
in minites of one another and we were able to load both busses at the same time
with no problems.

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

Our last trip, we stayed off-site and had a car, so this whole bus system is a bit new to us.

And we definitely plan on going with the flow and relaxing. If that means we have to wait for a bus, so be it. :wizard:

Another bus question ~ I'm guessing that the buses are clearly marked as to where they are going?

I'm guessing they are, as during our last trip, I remember all the signage around Disney, showing exactly where things were. :)

Thanks...by your signature I see you are an POR expert.

I think to just maybe spend some quiet peaceful time with the one you love. ;) :goodvibes

Yes indeed. Each bus has a digital marquee in the front window that will say MAGIC KINGDOM or BLIZZARD BEACH or the like.

That's what I thought. :)

But I figured I'd be the dummy that would ask what everyone else is afraid to~ :lmao:
