I'm planning a visit to LA in March and the friend I'm visiting would like us to go to DL. Normally, as a Disney buff, I'd be all over it, but with the horrendous decline of our Canadian dollar nothing is really affordable in the States anymore - esp. a daily DL Park pass that comes to around $180 in our currency.

My friend is insisting it will be no problem if she buys the SoCal resident discount passes for us both and that "no one ever" gets checked at the entrance - despite what the small print says. I find this hard to believe because, what's to stop the resident from buying his/her 5 tickets a day and reselling them to the general public for a $20 profit, for example?

Anyway, I just wanted to ask if any residents have used this discount this year and whether you got IDed at the entrance? It's not worth going to the Park for me the full price - esp. with so many rides closed - but I also am not a risk taker and don't want to take any unreasonable chances on being turned away after paying for a Resident Park Pass.

Just going by their terms it appears local ID is only required for purchase so it should be fine for locals to purchase for visiting friends/relatives.

Interestingly, when it was first announced on the Disney blog the wording indicated that proof of residency was required for both purchase and admission. But the "and admission" part was apparently removed in the above link.

I am a resident - I bought online and my ID was not checked at the gate. I read the restrictions as the purchaser needed to be a resident but not necessarily the five people for whom they buy. But I could be remembering wrong....

Hmmm, I was considering this for my next trip as I have family in So Cal. I read the small print and decided it wasn't worth the chance, maybe I should reconsider.

Out of curiosity, what would happen if they did check ID. Would they confiscate the ticket or just send you to a ticket booth to pay the difference?

In 2014 my ID was checked when I purchased the tickets and again the first time I hopped. As long as you're planning to be with your friend the first day of use you should be fine. But check the ticket restrictions, they're blocked at the end of March.

Sheetz - the link said proof of residency is required for purchase and admission. So it seems they CAN check ID and if one isn't a resident I'm guessing you might not be let in. I'll have to think on this a little as it might not be worth the risk. I doubt every person gets checked but they can do it I guess. If any SoCal locals did go in on a pass this year would be interesting hearing their experience.

I checked again and I could only find that mentioned on the blog, not the official terms on the Disney site. Why don't you just call and ask?

Problem with calling and asking is that you often get conflicting information. My feeling is that it's worth a try IF all they do is send you to the ticket booth to pay the diff. Not worth the risk if they're going to just say 'Sorry, Charlie' then tell to buy a whole new ticket and that you'll have to try to return the So Cal one for a refund later. Or worse yet, confiscate the ticket.

sheetz - is this the link to the Disneyland site: https://disneyland.disney.go.com ? I can't see SoCal resident tickets for sale on it but that could be because they track my IP. For the SoCal city pass (which is a different deal) I'm seeing: "Please ensure all Guests in your party remember to bring a valid government-issued photo ID when entering the Disneyland Parks. You may be asked to show a valid government-issued photo ID and, if applicable, payment card(s). Failure to do so may result in denial of admittance to the Theme Parks, and/or denial of other rights and entitlements."

So they don't have this disclaimer for the SoCal DL passes?

You may have to show ID for all passes. If the scanners aren't working and your picture doesn't come up they will ask you to show ID matching the name on the ticket.

City Pass is a completely separate thing that anyone can buy.

They didn't check our IDS on Wednesday. I don't even think they took our picture either which I thought was strange. If they did, I have no idea whichpass goes to which person in our family because they didn't have us sign them or anything. I bought them online and was using gift cards but it wouldn't let me pay for it completely with gift cards because they have to have a credit card to check address. So I put $2 on the credit card and the rest on gift cards. Last year when I bought them at VONS they did not check my ID.

Thanks Sheetz - I don't know why a link for that page wasn't showing up for me at https://disneyland.disney.go.com unless I was getting geo blocked. And thanks wendydarling33. All things considered, I think I will tell my friend to go ahead and buy 2 passes and hope for the best. Our first day would be Sunday - right after the blackout period for Spring break so maybe it will be busy enough that they don't check for residence ID.

As a SoCal resident, I believe that it has to be a SoCal resident just to purchase. And as a previous poster stated, if you're going with the purchaser, I see no reason to worry about not being admitted.

Darn, got my hopes up that a friend could purchase for us. I looked online and it says this after you put it in your cart to buy it "Item(s) are priced for Southern California residents only. All adults who will use Southern California resident tickets will need to show proof of Southern California residency at park entrance."
