How does it work? Do you have to hand over the pass, or just show it? And is the parking areas really much better? Thank you!

We have used the AAA parking pass at AK. The parking there is closer than the regular lot and even closer than the bus drop off. You just have to show the pass at the parking lot gates and they will tell you which line to follow to the lot. At the AK in Aug there was an attendant checking the pass before entering the lot. That was the first time that happened but they are cracking down on people parking where they aren't supposed to be. AAA has even changed the pass to include your name and dates of the trip so they cannot be passed around (or they have even been for sale on Ebay). Can't help with the parking at any other park. You may get closer at MK than the regular lot but you will still have to use the monorail or ferry. There the resort busses get you the closest.

At some of the parks it doesn't really get you that close(Magic Kingdom)for instance. There it is a long walk to the TTC and there is no tram pick-up. So it is not really a benifit. At Epcot it is real close.

I have used the AAA pass at all of the parks. I agree that it doesnt really help to much at MK, because you do have to ride the boat or monorail. But it does get you closer for your walk back to the car. It has been alot closer at Epcot. At AK you park to the right hand side of the lot, up where the handicapped parking is. At DS its right behind the handicapped parking. We have always just showed the pass and followed whatever line we were supposed to. It has been about 50-50 if we have been able to use it though. Sometimes those spaces fill up quick.

Is the AAA pass only available to people with AAA packages or can anyone with a AAA membership buy one? We are staying off property and not buying anything through AAA this trip (in June 2010).

Thanks.

Generally speaking, only those using AAA to book a pkg are able to procure the parking pass. But, check with your local AAA office..they may say differently.

We used it for the first time in April and most of the time we had great parking. It did take a little bit of a learning curve (at least for us) as it seemed each park had a different way of handling the AAA pass. But we eventually got the hang of it soon enough.

For our 2008 trip, we purchased one day admission for one person in our group from AAA and that entitled us to the Diamond Parking Pass. It was well worth it to us for parking at AK and Epcot as mentioned.
