I'm considering using some space bags for packing so that we will have only 2 carry ons and not have to fool with the baggage return area. Has anyone ever used these? Were your clothes wrinkled to pieces when you arrived or were they ok?

I plan on using these this time as well. I can't answer how they do in packing but generally the space bags do not wrinkle my clothes when I take them out of the big bags.

I have used them going to AZ and they do give you more space- just make sure your bag doesn't weigh more since you have more room. My clothes didn't appear as wrinkled...but I found myself putting lots of things in!

I haven't noticed extra wrinkles either. We're a family of 3 and I use the space saver bags to make it possible for us to pack all our clothing into one bag. And as mentioned before...watch the weight on your bag.

I have a set of these, all the Jumbo size for clothing. My biggest complaint is that the air leaks out after only a few days and they don't stay flat. They do keep the water out but don't stay compressed.

I used them once for packing. They worked great in cramming everything into the duffle bag. That is until the TSA agent opened the space bags to check what was in them. Cramming everything back in without a vacum was not a fun experience. If you're going to go ahead and use them, buy the travel ones that can shrink down without the vacum.

We've used the travel space bags, no vacuum needed, for a few years. Great item, we roll the top and press the bag against the bed with our legs to keep the deflated bag flat. These create alot of extra room is a suitcase so watch you don't take more stuff then you need and go over weight. We pack by a list and even though the bags 3/4 full, we do not add anything else. Coming homes alittle different, extra junk accumulated so we purchased a small scale, fishing section, at Wal Mart, do not like surprises at the airport or train station.

:confused3 Are these a problem at airports? If they check your luggage are they apt to open them to check them? I'd think of investing in them but not if it's a hassle.

We use them every time we travel. I have several different sizes and sort according to style of clothing, i.e., underwear in one bag, pants in another, shirts in another, ... and I put my pillow in a bag. I also have one large bag in the front pocket of each of our check-on luggage. When we reach the airport, we take off our coats and put them in the bags, compress the air out, put the bag in the front pocket of the luggage ... when we reach home (snow country) our coats are easy to pull out and have available.

Since our items are sorted and visible we have never had a problem with TSA opening the space bags.

When we are in the hotel, we keep a bag in the bottom of the closet for dirty clothes. When the bag is full, I compress the air out and pack the bag. When it is time to go home, most of our packing is already done.

I loved it when I had to open a bag and it had the clothes in a space bag. Easy checking the bag. No they should not have to open it.

thanks for the great info, I just bought some today!

I have also thought about using space bags because we are always just shy of the 60 lbs on Southwest. If you don't find the travel bags, how do you get the air out of them for the return flight. WDW only has upright vacuums and I don't remember seeing the attachement that you can get all the air out.:confused3

Travel space bags use no vacuum, they have a one way valve at the bottom, place items in, zip the top and fold over a few times and then press the air out or roll. I like to press the bag with my legs against the bed side or wall to keep the bag flat, guess you could also sit on the bag on a hard chair to get the air out and keep the bag flat too.

I buy the multi-pack from Target. There are 3 or 4 bags in the pack and cost approx $12. We have used ours for many, many trips and thus far, only one has become dysfunctional (zipper broke).

I use the travel Space Bags everytime we go to WDW. I swear by them! We have 4 in our family and I try to only take 2 big and 1 small suitcases and we bring food/snacks/drinks for our DS with food allergies so I need all the room I can get! (And DH is a terrible "over-packer") The travel size doesn't require a vacuum as a pp said. You just put your stuff and in and roll the air out. The only problem I have has is that once I rolled them wearing my engagement/wedding ring and the prongs poked holes in the bag and the bag didn't work! I don't find the clothes to be any more wrinkled than with typical packing. I always weigh our bags to make sure they aren't too heavy.
