My first experience at Disney in 1983 was terrible. I camped for two weeks at Fort Wilderness in a tent. I do not intend on ever doing that again, but the Wilderness Cabins look neat.

If you have stayed there before using your points, please let me know your thoughts and if it was worth it.

Thanks - DianeDisney:teeth:

Yes, I stayed there in March 2001 on points. We bought DVC in August 2000, and when we called to get ressies for March 2001 for BWV, some of the days were unavailable. So.....we booked at the Cabins at FW. Personally, I believe that the cabins are WDW best kept secret, and the best value outside of the DVC collection. If I ever have to book a non-DVC resort again, the cabins are my first choice.

I've stayed at Fort Wilderness Cabins before we bought DVC. My only complaint was that they did not have enough space for clothing. The back bedroom had a bed, I think it was a full, and two bunks, but only 1 dresser with very small drawers and 1 open closet. We had to use one of the beds for clothing. The living room has the pull-down Murphy bed but also does not have any place for clothing. Other than the kitchen facility, I always preferred to have 2 rooms at Dixie Landings for the space, the extra room for the tv once kids went to bed, and a mini-fridge because we just never seemed to use the kitchen that much. It is nice to stay in Fort Wilderness so if you really want to stay there, I say go for it. Sometimes I am just too picky.

We used points for two nights in the cabins a little less than a month ago.

I "SO" enjoyed staying at FW - it was so much fun to enjoy the campground - we rented bikes and a golfcart - and did Hoop de Doo.

That all being said - there have been some AWESOME cash rates on the cabins lately - to the tune of $129/night.

If I had to do it over, I would DEFINITELY have rented points and paid cash - it would have saved me a BUNCH of points.

But, live and learn - we had a wonderful time. I would definitely like to go back there again...

We stayed at the cabins prior to buying DVC and loved it! Me & DH are NOT campers "woodsie" people but DH wanted to add on a couple nights. As someone mentioned, they are WDW's best kept secret especially for the price. We are seriously considering spending a weekend there prior to the cruise in February. The resort is so laid back and family orientated. Plenty to do w/out leaving the resort and we all love the buffet barbecue.
