Has anyone upgraded to DVC gold annual pass from Parksavers ticket?

Regarding your math, you do need to account for tax on the DVC AP. DVC annual passes are $584.69 including tax. Gate price for 7 day hopper is $467.54 including tax, so upgrade should be $117.15 per ticket.

Gotcha. But the gate price is what we're credited, so this is a "real" savings of $80 on the pass, right?

Awesome. Too bad there's no DVC discount on the bi-coastal pass. ;) Thanks for the help, buying the tickets this evening!

A few years ago Disney announced they were not going to bridge tickets (non-package) purchased directly from Disney. Unlike a broker they know exactly what you paid since they sold them.

Isn't this the entire reason for the "use a day" workaround? Something about using a day on the ticket loses the information about what was paid, so they have no choice but to credit the full amount?

That was the reason given for tickets purchased from a broker but from all reports even that didn't lose the price that the broker paid as people often reported that the CM wanted to only give credit for that amount. But this is just a distinction Disney announced for non package tickets bought directly from them. I think it was 4 or so years at they decided that.

These 7-Day hoppers are $390. Gate price is $468
$468 - $390 = $78.

That's your savings. You lock it in when you buy from the third-party. You don't save any "extra" when you convert to an AP.

Well, technically, you do save upgrading to the annual pass over adding Memory Maker, since that's included in the pass. ;) But yeah, that's why I was only counting the actual cash savings. And I added two dollars for the discount code, which is how I got $80.

By the way, thank you everyone. bought the tickets last night. Our April trip starts on a blackout date for the Gold pass, so using these tickets first before upgrading gets us an extra day on top of everything else. Can't thank you all enough!

Can you do the same thing again on renewals?

Specifically, If I purchase a DVC Gold AP that expires on 12/30/17 (purchased by upgrading a Parksavers MYW ticket that I first used on 12/31/16) can I then use a second Parksavers MYW ticket to enter the parks on 12/31/17 through 01/02/18 (Blackout dates) and then apply the value of that MYW ticket to my annual pass renewal on January 3 2018?

I know the expiration on the renewal would be 12/30/18, but I would get the $80 savings twice, and be able to enter the parks on blackout days both years.

Our last two days are blackout dates, but we are actually only going to use 6 days of our 7 day ticket, so can we upgrade after we go in the park that last blackout date, just as long as we have a day left on our tickets?

Yes, and as long as its within 14 days of the first day you use the ticket.

We are thinking of getting the gold AP, upgrading on the last day of our 25th anniversary tickets this December. I was planning to buy memory maker for the December trip, forgetting it was included with the APs. If I upgrade on the last day of my trip to the AP, will I get memory maker applied to the photos that were taken the week prior? when is the activation date for the AP? the first day I used the tickets or the day I upgraded? We are going during blackout dates, which is why I want to upgrade on the last day of the trip as opposed to the first day.

For the purposes of the AP's expiration, it would be based on the first day you used the tickets, not the day you upgrade. As for whether that also backdates the Memory Maker entitlement---that's probably something I would ask wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com. If you get the answer you want, save the email, just in case.

Yes, you will have the photos. You'll actually have access to any photos that photopass still has in the system for you. For me, when I upgraded to a Gold AP last Dec that included stays the previous Sept, Oct! That experience is consistent with other reports.

Hi, just found this thread as well, as it's time to buy tickets for my October trip. I haven't seen the other thread mentioned, but see lots of reports that you can purchase the discount tickets, and then upgrade without having to use a day first. I didn't see anywhere the steps to do this. Can someone either tell me where/how to upgrade to the DVC Gold in advance, after I purchase the discount tickets, or at least point me to that thread? Thanks in advance. It won't be necessary to us to use a day first, as none of our travel dates will be on blackout days. Thanks.

You can't upgrade from home. A ticketing cast member who posts here on the forum has indicated that you don't have to enter a park first to get the ticket bridged to an AP but it must be done on site at a ticket window or at guest services.

Cool, thanks for the info!

Thanks to everyone for the information in this thread!

I do have a question that I haven't found an answer for. Can I use an adult ticket for a child?
The 7 day child's ticket at Parksavers is $370 & the gate price is $419 so there is a smaller savings on the kids ticket to begin with. Then added to this, there isn't a child's price for the DVC AP so there is a much larger difference between the child's gate price and the DVC AP.

Does anyone know if the system would let me link an adult ticket to a child in MDE and then upgrade to the DVC?
I understand this is a very particular question but I appreciate any advice or thoughts on this!
