Has anyone tried Pedi Paws for their dogs?

I bought one for my dog and it was not a good experience. We followed the directions, and three of us tried it, but the dog hated it. When the nail would make initial contact, it was a little rough and made a loud grinding noise, which scared the dog. She kept trying to pull her paw away. When we would try again, it just didnt' seem to work very well, or be very easy like they show on the commercials. We ended up returning ours.

My vet actually started using DREMEL tools (rotary tool) about 5 or 6 years ago. Pedi-paws are basically a cheap version of that.

Depending on the model DREMELS can have a variety of speeds and the sanding discs can be fine to coarse.

My dogs tolerate the noise of the DREMEL much better then the claw chipping and breaking caused by the heavy duty clippers I used to have to use.

In short...just get a DREMEL.

A co-worker tried it on her dog. The dog hated it and she ended up returning it. I watched a show where they talked about this item, and they came to the conclusion that even if it does actually work, the dogs couldn't stand the noise and vibration so you would end up not using it anyway.

All of my dogs LOVE it, particularly com[ared to the trauma of clippers. We'd be in big trouble without it.

I have two dogs; one is fine with it, the other won't let it near her. It works, but I think you'd do better going with a dremel.

My dog hates the clippers and was okay with Pedi-Paws but the Pedi-Paws didn't make a dent in her nails. They are very thick and strong. My vet also uses a Dremel and that's what I think my dog needs.

My dogs tolerate it but it takes a long time. I need to buy a Dremel.

One advantage of the DREMEL is the variable speeds. One of my dogs hates it when it's on high so I can put it on low with her and she's OK (takes longer though). The other three granite heads could care less. They just want the after-pedicure-treat.

With the use of a lot of treats our dog does better with the Pedi Paws then a clipper. It takes FOREVER though (and we have a small dog). I just bought a quick finder clipper so I am going to give that a try.

Thank you everyone. So this might be a dump question, but what is a dremel, and where can I get one?

It was a total waste of money. :sad2:

My dogs were terrified of it and, the few times I DID get them to sit still long enough to try it, it wasn't strong enough to file down their nails at all.

Save your money and go for the Dremel.

Agreed. We bought one. We used it twice. It works, but our dog HATED the noise and the feeling it made when it first touched her nails. I didn't want to keep putting her through that so we just gave up on it. Definitely not worth the money we spent on it.

Works great I turn it on & the gets dog off the bed;)

LOL!

I've been toying with the idea of getting one of these, so I"m glad to see this thread. I think I'll pass

One of the dogs here (the Pit/Lab mix) thinks it's a game and loves it. The other absolutely hates it but, as much as I love him, he's a bit of a cry baby about everything.

When I pull it out of the cupboard, one goes running and the other starts growling. :lmao: Plus it's just not strong enough -- my dogs have some thick nails.

There's a groomer down the street who charges $5 to clip the nails. I'm better off doing that. She's so quick, the dogs don't even know what hit them.

My dog hates it and her nails are so thick that it never really worked. My DH ended up clipping her nails, then using the Pedi Paws to smooth the nail out until it stopped working.
