I have a search in progress for a week in Myrtle Beach for next year for the weekend AFTER Memorial Day 2004. Of the 4 properties that I was interested in, there were no instant matches. That's why there is a search in progress. I know that I have alot of time for the match to come through, but since this is my first time doing this, what can I expect? I started the search about 3 weeks ago and I am patient so I am not going nuts waiting to hear from MS. Does Myrtle seem to be a hard place to exchange or does anyone think I have a good chance?

Thanks to all

Jon

Just to let you know about that time frame you are asking for so you do not end up in such a crowded time if you do not want that.

week before Mem. day---"Harley Davidson Week"--100-200 thousand bikers for the week.

week of Mem day and weekend---"Black Biker Week"---100 to 200 thousand bikers on the "rocket" type bikes.

week after Mem day is "Graduation week"--- untold number of 18 year old at the beach by themselves.

I am not saying these weeks are bad or good, just crowded. Many hotels and rest. close during these weeks because they cannot keep up, lose money due to problems, or would rather not serve these types of customers. (there is a law suit right now because of this) Any way , I am just letting you know about this 3 week time span and the themed weeks.

It will be a tough trade but you never know what will happen. Did you not list all 6 resorts in the area? Marriott is building there but I doubt it will be open early enough to help you out. One thing to know is that all the resorts there are likely somewhat below the quality of the DVC and Marriott resorts. Since most owners can't deposit until 12 months or less out, I suspect the next 3 months will be crucial to your success. Good luck.

I personally would not use points for a trip to Myrtle Beach. Having been there so many times, I can tell you there are plenty of deals to be found. You can even look outside of Myrtle Beach at Ocean Isle Beach or Sunset Beach N.C. and find qreat condo deals and just a few minutes away from Myrtle. Also if you like golf, you can get some pretty awesome golf packages around MB. Just an opinion, but nice accomodations are fairly inexpensive in MB.:)

I agree, I own a condo it Little River(just north of Myrtle Beach).
Not on the water but near all the great golf courses. We rent it out for $600.00 per week and we are not the lowest around. It is a nice area but you're correct in saying "it ain't Disney". You can find a lot of owner rented condos I have linked a site. Good luck.

Garden City and Surfside, which are just the southern part of Myrtle. We alway rent a home there over spring break and it is reasonable. It is considered non season but we get a 5 bedroom, 5 bath, right on the ocean for 1800. We get these thru dunes.com, or dune.com. I would save my points.
