Has anyone traded points into RCI when they would have expired otherwise?

I have some points that might not rent with Dave's. They expire on Aug. 31st. If they don't rent by the end of this month... I will try to rent on here but if not... I think I have the option to place with them with RCI is that correct?? If you could share how this works exactly I would appreciate it. TIA

I put 260 or so points into RCI a few years ago because I completely screwed up and didn't bank them and there was no way to use them. I didn't even know about renting out points then. I realized this a few days after the last banking date and called CS in a panic. They were kind enough to give me the option of using them for RCI...enough for a two bedroom at an RCI resort. I then had almost three years to use them and screwed around there too! Finally booked a week for thanksgiving In florida a month before they would have expired. We decided we didn't want to go and I gave the week away for a charity auction. The family thst purchased it loved it. When I called to change the name on the reservation, there was no charge. I wouldn't do RCI again because I'm smarter now and because Disney online allows for easy tracking and banking. Also we have diamond resort points and can always use those resorts in addition to our Disney points. But it was a good option at the time. I always appreciated that CS worked with me so that I didn't lose those points altogether!

There was a time when we weren't using our point "wisely" and ended up putting them into RCI. It's nice to have that option, but for us, it was difficult to get a reservation with RCI. We live in California and we'd look into Tahoe, San Diego, etc. Always booked. The CS lady on the phone said hardly anything becomes available in California. Best bet was Vegas. She said something is always available in Vegas but that's not for us and our daughter. We lucked out, once, went to Lake Tahoe during ski season. Couldn't get another reservation and ended up just wasting the remaining points in RCI. I'm more on top of our points now, with banking them, etc. I don't want to use RCI again.

There is some sort of deadline for depositing into RCI; I thing it's 45 days before he end of your use year. I asked the question a few weeks ago, but I only had 20 days, so it didn't work out for me.

That is too funny. I spent some time browsing RCI's inventory today to see what was "on sale." Seems like there is always Tahoe! Today's sale shows plenty of weeks at Tahoe for $209/week! (Of course, these weeks might not be available on DVC's hand-picked "short list." Similarly, there are plenty of weeks available in Palm Desert: Palm Springs, Indio, La Quinta, etc.)

Out of interest, can Resale points be used for RCI?

I believe there's a limited number of RCI properties you can use your points for, but I don't know the number. If you go to the DVC RCI website, it should tell you. There was another thread a while ago where people who bought resale discussed the number of RCI resorts they had to choose from.

Yes. Resale points work the same as direct points with the World Collection (formerly the World Passport Collection.) All DVC members choose from the same RCI and Buena Vista Trading Company options.

The only restricted options for resale points purchased after March 21, 2011 are the Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection, and Concierge Collection.
