Has anyone taken taxi/Mears from Hyatt to nearby liquor store?

DH and I are at a stand-off here.

We want to bring our own beer and soft-drinks(3 24-packs in all, Dr. Peppers and beer). He wants to wrap all in towels in a separate suitcase on the 'just in case they leak' factor. I've wondered if it would be less expensive to send him to a liquor store (are there ANY close to MCO?) so we don't end up paying overweight baggage charges (I haven't done the math yet, maybe it won't be over).

I think it would be more convenient, because I'm not sure if the drinks would exceed the number of bags DCL allows.

Has anyone taken a taxi/Mears to a nearby liquor store, and if you did, was it a lot$$?

Thanks!:D

We thought about doing that then I decided to call Shirley's company The Perfect Gift. What I ordered was 2 bottles of wine, a six pack of Diet Vanilla Coke, a bottle of Gin and 3 diet tonics. The Perfect Gift had it all wrapped up in a cute large Disney tote bag. Probably spent the same as if I did the taxi etc. but I didn't have to lift a finger :D and I didn't have to worry on how it was going to get on the ship, Disney doesn't care but somebody has to carry the stuff.

In the past I have put beverages in luggage. I used ziplock sytle bags for each bottle and a lot of bubble wrap. I never had a bottle break. Once we took a 24 pack of beer with a lot of bubble wrap in a rolling carryon, but you have to deal with storing in on all of the flights. Although the carryon came in handy storing all purchases that we made on the cruise.

Having The Perfect Gift do my walking was the best way yet.

I also give my vote to Shirley at The Perfect Gift. We are going to have a 12 pack of Coronas with a key lime waiting in our stateroom for us and then flowers for my DW and my DM delivered for Mothers day and then of course some snacks and activities for DS6. Shirley is extremely friendly and goes out of her way to provide suggestions that will fit your budget. - Mike

I also give my vote to Shirley. We have ordered baskets for our cruise leaving April 10th and it was so much eaiser that having to worry about getting it there or going out to get it. My MIL uses a CPAP machine which requires distilled water and I couldn't get an answer from DCL as to whether or not we could get it on board, so Janice (Shirley's asst) just said she can put it in their basket. It sure saves a lot of hassles. Even if you do wrap them in towels, if they leak not only will you be out what you spent, but they might leak all over someone else's luggage. The way it sounds is you are also planning on doing this when you fly down, and I think the airlines really frown on this.

I say go with Shirley.::yes::

Another advantage of using Shirley is you do not have to stop at the liquor store, pack it up, carry it aboard, and then unpack it. What a convenience. - Mike

Could somebody please either email me or pm me on how to get in touch with Shirley's company? I think I had that information at one time, but I can't find it now.

TIA

Returning to your original question, though, there's a grocery store and liquor store about five miles north of the airport on SR-436.

Thank you! I had tried to find that website with Google, but there are a LOT of "The Perfect Gift" websites out there.

I just made the deposit for May, 2005, for 10 of us. Now I start the manic research thing.

I appreciate the info about Shirley's, but did everyone read how much we're wanting to buy? Three 24 packs! :p

I'll call for prices. It wouldn't be a problem if we only wanted a six pack here and there, but we're buying for the whole week for three of us.

Maybe I'll be surprised! Thanks.
