Has anyone stopped being a "fan" of a celebrity b/c of political views?

Nope. I really could care less about other's political views. And I'm not going to penalize myself from eliminating potentially entertaining media simply because of someone's viewpoint.

I mean, if Tim Robbins and Charlton Heston were in a movie together, would I need to see the movie because of one of their political views but not see it because of the others?

I agree. I have good friends that fall on the oppisite side of the political spectrum, and I love them. Heck I have siblings that fall on the opposite side. It keeps me on my toes, and I love a good debate. If we all thought alike there would be no discussion and hence no progress.

Also, other celebrities (ie, johnny Depp, Gwyneth paltrow) say how much they hate "America" yet they come here to hawk their movies and they make millions off of thic country and it's residents. Look at Alec Baldwin...he said he'd move to Ireland if Bush got elected...do you think he did it? No. He obviously didn't "believe" in his own opinion enough to follow through with it when push came to shove.

Some famous people just think their opinion means more than us common folk's opinions. That's just wrong.

Let me clarify...I don't dislike them as people, I just enjoy their music. I really don't care who they voted for or why they don't eat meat or support war. The focus on them seems to be about 10% music and 90% politics lately.

I understand what you're trying to say, and I totally agree. I listen to the artists because I enjoy their music. I don't listen to them because I agree with their political views, and if their political views starting interfering with their music, then yeah, I would probably not pay them as much attention.

It depends. On whether they agree with me. :p No, actually, it really depends how much time they spend on entertaining vs. being outspoken. If their public persona overwhelms their talent, I won't enjoy their music or movies because I can only see/hear them, not the movie/music. For the record, I think the same thing of Tom Cruise, because every time I see him in a movie, he's Tom Cruise and not whatever character he's trying to portray. It makes the movie less enjoyable to me.

While there are many celebrities out there whose political views make me nauseous, I can still appreciate their talent. Am I necessarily a "fan" of these people? No. But I don't know if I would be regardless of their political views (this means you Barbra!)

My view is this. Celebrities are just people that everyone knows. This does not make them experts on politics.

One thing that I notice is the politician that the celebrities show up and back ends up losing. ex. Howard Dean

Everyone has an opinion on politics but this does not mean that I have to listen to it.

I agree 100% ! I am so tired of seeing celebrities on stage with politicians. Just because they can act or sing doesn't mean they know what is best for our country.
I used to love the Dixie Chicks untill I heard what they said about our president in another country. If they want to have different views thats fine, but they didnt need to announce them like they did. They went to far. Now when ever I hear them, very nasty names come to mind. I cant stand to listen to them anymore. I wanted to throw their CD's away, but my husband said he still might listen to them some day, I said fine as long as I wasnt around. I can tell you not one more penny from this family will go to buying another of their cd's.
As far as MOST other celebrities having opposite political views as me I just try to shrug it off, unless they are way out there (Barbara, Alec Baldwin ect.) If I wasn't able to do that I wouldn't be able to watch any movies or listen to any music. My dad can't shrug it off, all he'll watch is Fox news and he only listens to country music. My poor mom has to wait till he goes to bed to watch her sitcoms with the exception of Everybody loves Raymond because he likes Patricia Heaton and her views. :D

Okay I don't really care that they are "celebrities and we should seperate their work, etc." If you are on my TV at 7pm for MY RATING, then at 10pm your BACK on to tell me how much you hate the president or to push YOUR charity that you get to "write off" at the end of the year so that it looks good on your image, then here are the following "celebrities" I now mute when I see on my TV! :D :p

Michael Moore*****THE WORST BY FAR!*****
Bono
Sean Penn
Tim Robbins

Well, a George Clooney film will never be seen in my house...but more because of cruelty and lack of class...do you all recall the joke he made regarding Charles Heston and his alzheimer's?

I think that the Dixie Chicks did a horrible thing. It was a very disrespectful thing to do to their fans. However, I like their music. The sad thing is that in this country we put celebrities at royalty level. So, when they talk, more people like to listen. Just because they can act or sing, doesn't mean that they should be world leaders.

Now if the Dixie Chicks started singing about how bad our country was, then you can believe that they'd never be listened to in our country again.

Yes, at times an artist, an actor, or some other famous person has put me off with their political views enough that I find I don't enjoy their work anymore and no longer listen to it, watch it or whatever.
