Has anyone stayed at the South of the Border hotel?

Hi all,
Has anyone stayed at the South of the Border hotel? We're driving down 8/19 and was thinking of making that our overnight stay. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has stayed there.

I've not stayed there only been there. To me it was "cheese". I'd just stop there and let the kids see it, then go up the road. I'd use Priceline and see what price I could get on something. Try bidding for travel . com to see what others are getting.

In my opinion there are better places to stay that are much safer and more modern. I have to agree with the previous post about it being cheesy. We have been told South of the Border has high crime at night. We always stay just a few miles north of there in Lumberton, North Carolina and have been very happy with our choices for hotels and restuarants.

We have driven many times and I would not stay at South of the Border. There are plenty of safer and cleaner areas to stay! Have fun.

We always stay at South of the Border. It's not well liked on these boards though. I guess Yogi Berra is right, "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded".

Don't do it!!! You can drive 40 minutes to Florence, we have a ton of nice hotels off I-95. The crime rate in the South of the Border area is really bad. I used to work near there and my dad did work there, just don't do it!

Thanks for all your great feedback . I think maybe we'll stop at south of the border for dinner. Then continue a bit further for a place to stop overnight
