Has anyone stayed at the HoJo @ Penn Station?

Hi,

I just booked this hotel for Dec. 6-8 for our 1st trip to NY with our kids to see the Christmas Spectacular/Rockettes show.

I cannot find a hotel for under $269. per night. I found this one for $120.90 per night thru HK.com.

I'm wondering if this is a safe place to stay or should I cancel?

We have never been into Manhattan. We'll be there this coming weekend just DH and me @ the Best Western President on W. 48th St., but I cannot book it again for December as it is sold out for those dates.

Any info on this Howard Johnson's would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Lori

I just asked DH about this...he goes to NY on business, and I know he has stayed at HoJo's. He said that he can't picture a HoJo's at Penn Station. He stays at the one at 8th and 51st and said that one is very safe and very nice. If this is the one you mean, then he said to request the 11th floor...it's the "home office" floor...it has more amenities (in-room coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, non-smoking). To be ON 8th avenue, you want an even numbered room; if you want to be away from the noise of 8th avenue, you want an odd numbered room, the back of the hotel. He said the location is great...many things within walking distance.

Also, he says if you like Thai food, go across the street to The Siam Inn...very good food. (Of course, while he's off enjoying gourmet food in NY, I'm eating at Wendy's with the kids between soccer practices. )

If this isn't the hotel you're talking about..."never mind". :teeth:

i can't remember this hotel, but i searched online. it's 34th st between 7th & 8th avenues. that's an incredibly busy and pretty safe part of town. you'll be right near a commuter hub, so be prepared to fight the crowds. i've always felt safe in this area, though.

Thank you for your reply everyone. I do feel a bit better now...(MaryAnnDVC - Wendy's is my favorite ;)

Now the other thing I worried about is would it be better to take a cab to Radio City Music Hall or the subway? Are the subways easily navigated?

More advice would be great - thanks again!

Lori

i personally think subways are easily navigated, but i'm a native, what do i know. ;)

actually, it's not that hard from penn sta to radio city. you'd walk one block east to the Herald Sq stop and take a B, D, F or V (basically, any of the orange ones) UPTOWN. it's only 2 stops away - the Rockefeller Center stop. but if the subways intimidate you, it might be better to take a cab. it shouldn't be too much - they're pretty close.
