We are thinking of staying there on our next visit and would love to hear about anyone else's stay. I have studied it all over the internet. :sunny:

I stayead there in 1986. It was beautiful. The rooms were large. The bathroom was also large. The closet was accessible from the bedroom side and the bathroom side. There was the vanity/mirror area (always had fresh flowers), shower/tub area seperate toilet area with a door(which had a phone in it). Our room had inside hallway entrance. Each door had a doorbell. The pool is tiled with an orchid design. The beach was small but the water was very calm. I couldn't tell you what we paid because it was part of a 14 day package. I do remember seeing the price list on the door ~ if I remember correctly, at that time (1986), it was somewhere around $300 a night. We did not have an ocean front room but could see the ocean in the far distance from our room.

This is a picture of the view that we had from our room. The other is the view of Diamond Head from the beach.

Thanks for the review. Did you find that the pool was overly crowded? was it hard to find a lounge chair?
was the miniature beach crowded? did you walk to other parts of the beach?

I've stayed there a couple of times. It's right near one end of Waikiki beach - the not as crowded end. Room prices are in the Grand Floridian range. It's the only 5 diamond hotel in Hawaii. Some of the ocean view rooms also have a view of Diamond Head. The pool is never crowded. There are always lounge chairs. There's a nice workout room - I've never seen anyone else in there. Best of all is the Sunday brunch buffet at their restaurant Orchids - make ressies before you get there and request a lanai seat - you'll be right next to the beach - price is about $45 per person. If you feel like splurging, have dinner at their fine dining restaurant, La Mer - you can order ala carte or there's a price fixe menu (about $125 without wine) - jackets are required for men - and it kicks V&A butt.

I know its going to be expensive. We have stayed at this end of the beach a few times but at the Hilton. The beach is huge at the Hilton. Also while staying at the Hilton we stay in the all concierge bldg that has a private pool. so never any worry of a nice chair...as opposed to the main pool.

We would most likely book a part ocean view (ocean front is a small fortune). We want to try somewhere new closer to the action in Waikiki but....we want NICE. NICE NICE. So any other thoughts are welcome !!!

Thanks !!!:sunny:

Halekulani is not the only five diamond hotel in Hawaii, there are others, but it is a nice hotel.
