Has anyone sent their child on the Pirate Cruise at the GF?

Our youngest did the pirates cruise about three years ago and had a great time.

Janet2K --thanks to you and your daughter I have a great idea about what the "pirates" do on the cruise. Terrific pictures! Thanks again!

I am going to give it the old college try with my fairly mature 3.5 year old and see how it goes. Will try and partner him up with another DH or DW with a DS to encourage him to go on the cruise

Thanks
Jason

Astrid,
My DD did the cruise at the age of 9 1/2 with her brother age 6. She was a little hesitant thinking she'd be the oldest and it might be babyish but at the boat she found a couple of other 9 year old girls and buddied up with them. I think the CM's really go out of their way to make it fun for all the different ages. They really played up the jokes and stuff to the older kids and made them feel comfortable. My DD really had a great time.... and who wouldn't like all the pirate booty!:D

And yes, they book up very fast, try to call on the exact first day it would be available to book, our cruise was full and turned away walk ons at the dock.

Frankiemom, I'm possibly going to book my DS4 (also a Frankie) on the Pirate Cruise. I'll shoot for May 14th. My son will get a kick out of another Frankie.....

Also, be sure to where your green ribbon. If I see you floating around the Poly, I'll hollar :)!!

On another note, has a parent been allowed to join in the event that the child does not want to go alone? If not, is it refundable?

I am so pleased to read this thread!

Only yesterday I was talking abut this to my kids. My daughter who's 7 is really keen to do this cruise when we are at WDW in May/June, however, she's a little concerned that she'll be on her own.

Her 10 year old brother isn't really keen on going - will he be too old for this do you think? If he's not how do you think I could 'sell' the idea to him?!! :)

I'll be on my own with them over there but would quite relish the idea of a couple of hours 'me' time!!

Lastly, how booked up do these get? How soon do I have to book?

Thanks a milllion

Astrid

My 10 year old boy just did the cruise for the second time last month. He went the first time when he was 8. He loved it and had a blast both times.

The trip consists of a boat trip where the group stops at each of the resort beaches around the lagoon and looks for clues.
There is a bit at one of the beaches where they get to "ditch" the "bad CM". My son loves that part and thinks its very funny. The "bad CM" catches up to them on Discovery Island where they find the "treasure".

My son is actually a little sad it was his last time being able to go. 10 years old is the max age for the trip.

You book it by call 407-WDW-DINE. Book early, they only go twice a week and it tends to fill up fast.

Here's a picture of my Son before he got on the boat.

Have Fun!!

How do I book this for my 12 yr. old daughter? I think she would love this as a b-day surprise:-) She turns 13 during our stay.
3/28-4/5
Thanks, Janice

You can give it a try, but I believe the age group is 3-10. You call the regular PS line 407 wdw-dine

liv2cdworld -

We'll be at the Poly from May 9-13. I think we overlap. My son is doing the cruise on May 12. He is just over 4.

Thanks Cindy - what a great photo, I'll show that to my son tonight!

Also thanks vicb - I'm going to work on my son, but otherwise I reckon my daughter will just go along on her own.

Best get checking my dates and ringing now! :)

Thanks again.

Liv2cdworld,

That would be so cool to have our "Frankies" paired up together---mine will be 5 on April 23rd. I did not have any trouble booking on the 14th ---hope you will be able to get that time too. I will be looking for you!

Thanks, I guess she is too old. Sounds like it could be a fun thin gfor older kids as well. Thanks,
Janice

Frankiemom, just booked it for May 14th. See you there :)!

I just hope DS4 will actually go.....

Janet2K,

Thanks for sharing those GREAT pics!

How many CM's where there for the kids? I'm getting anxiety over the fact that this is mostly on the water - and my son "thinks" he can swim.....

Also, when they are "on shore" at each of the beaches, I'm assuming it's tightly supervised - for fear of the little one's bolting?

What About Special Needs Child?

Has anyone taken a special needs child on the pirate cruise? My 8 yo DS is a highly functioning autistic and he seems to miss out on so much. I could not in good conscience send my 7 yo DD unless he can go too. He loves POC so I'm thinking the pirate cruise would be a big hit with him.

Anyone? Thank you!

MEM,

I suggest that you go ahead and make reservations 120 days in advance (I think that's when you can). Soon thereafter, CALL the Grand Floridian Resort (not Disney Dining where you make the reservation), ask to be put in touch with someone directly responsible for the Pirate Cruise, and explain the situation.

I suspect things will be alright as long as they know what to expect. In the unlikely event that your DS can't do it, you can cancel one or both reservations.
