Has anyone seen the move Moulin Rouge? I'm wondering if it's good.

I love That Thing You Do too Barb. :) So does DH. :D

I like real-life types of stories....whether they're scary or sad or funny....just so they are realistic. :)

I don't like Sci-Fi, or martial arts, or foreign sub-titles, or stupid comedy, or 'space' movies, etc.

I LOVE Stella, Father of the Bride, The Green Mile, Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, Titanic, That Thing You Do, and a kabillion others. :D

<font face="comic sans ms"> Realistic? Hmmm? Note to self: Tia would appreciate it if you wouldn't recommend movies to her. :D :p ;)

{subliminal message coming} Tia, don't rent Moulin Rouge. No one you know said it was good. Don't rent Moulin Rouge.

Hugs,
Dayna

Tia, don't you just love the music? I bought the CD! I can't believe the songs were just "made up" for that movie and that's it. I may just have to play that one today! :D
Keep trying, Dayna, you never know. ;) ;)

<font face="comic sans ms"> I haven't seen That Thing You Do . Maybe I'll try and rent that one.

Tia, I really don't think you'll like Moulin Rouge if you like all of your movies set in a realistic setting. I love it but I'm barely set in a realistic setting myself. :p ;) :D

Okay, Ed and I watched Moulin Rouge last night....and Dayna, you were right. I didn't like it. ;) I was able to sit through the whole thing--even though Ed kept asking me if I wanted to watch something else. ;) I told him that I had to watch it all the way through at least 1 time.....so he watched it with me. I admit, I've seen movies that I have HATED more than Moulin Rouge, but I definitely won't be watching it again any time soon. ;)

It was kind of a cute love story :) .....until the end. :(

Okay, I'm so glad I saw others post about confused:confused: and bizarre:eek: when commenting about this movie. I will watch it again someday - there were a lot of disattractions while I watched it the first time. But I did find myself saying "Huh?" alot while it was on. I'll give it another try Dayna.

LOL! Tia, You would like Princess Diaries. I just got it and have already watched it twice. It is a nice story. Dayna, don;t know if you would like it! ;)

Steve, Steve, Steve, it is a wonderful life! It is a must view here at Christmas. It makes me happy! (Although my DH does give it a pass! That is why we have multiple tvs!)

My DH loves scary/gory movies. I cannot watch them without having bad dreams. (I'm with you there Dayna!) I believe that everything you read/see stays a part of you and I do not want ANY of that stuff to stay with me for any reason no way no how!!!! (Yup, I am a wussy viewer and I love happily ever after!)

Well, I hear "The Majestic" is the new "It's A Wonderful Life," so I'm going to check that out tomorrow...if I get this house clean. I was busy obsessing over Disneyland today.

Jody, I'm right there with your hubby! I love the "jump out and make you scream" movies! Maybe that's why I tend to be a little off the wall at times?!?

<font face="comic sans ms"> Jody, I thought Princess Diaries was a cute movie. I like movies like that, but I also like "weird" **** movies. I just don't care for violent movies. :shudder:

****=Arty, foreign, movies about strange people and/or situations, dark comedies, movies that don't have happy endings, etc. , etc.

Barb, you and I can get together and watch movies. :) :D :) :D

Ed and I love movies like Die Hard, 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, Black Rain, etc. Oh, and we love good 'gangster' movies too!! They don't give me nightmares.

Jody, that is an interesting theory......about everything you see and do becoming a part of you. I can actually see that being so, very true. Yet, I LOVE a good "shoot 'em up" flick. ;) Hmmmm......I'll have to ponder this one for a bit........ ;)

I LOVED Moulin Rouge in the theatre and was very excited to get my own copy on DVD for Christmas. I thought it was fun, imaginative, and beautifully filmed. I thought all the actors were great and I enjoyed its very distinct sense of "different-ness."

I like just about all kinds of movies but don't get to see as many in the theaters these days with a 20-month old at home. I mean to rent them but usually don't get around to it so I am quite far behind at this point. About the only kind of movies I don't love are psychological thrillers - just got burned out after seeing too many of them over the years and now they seem too stressful to watch. I love "girl" movies, musicals, sci-fi, family movies, foreign films, black comedies as well as "regular" comedies. Guess I'm not too picky, huh? LOL!

Anyway, for anyone who enjoys musicals and/or movies with a bit of an alternative slant, I think Moulin Rouge is a great film.

:) :) :)

Rhonda, your check is in the mail. Shhhh! :p

Dan and I went to see this opening weekend. We LOVED it... but saw a LOT of people leaving in the middle. When the lights came on there were two kinds of people left - Those like us that enjoyed it and were talking about how well we liked it. And then the others... they had their mouths hanging open and looked very confused...usually the words "Uh... I should ask for a refund" soon followed.

OK Dayna, I watched it. With the sound on ;). 6 out of 10.

Beauty and the Beast in IMAX? 15 out of 10.

'Course you have to understand that I like opera. Maybe that explains it......

Dayna,

Since I had an unexpected snow day (YES!) I watched Moulin Rouge today. Twice. Once with the commentary and once again without. (And the special stuff on the second disk.)

I give it a 7, and that's because the last thirty minutes saved it. Set direction and costuming were very good, but to me, there was too much style. It reminded me of a two hour MTV video.
Sorry I couldn't give it a higher rating, but it is only my opinion. If you want to take a pot shot at some of my favorites, I'll list them.

Frank:rolleyes:

<font face="comic sans ms"> Steve, I"m happy that you didn't hate it. :p I think it was very nice of you to watch a movie just because you knew I loved it. I still owe you a movie. Let me know what you want me to watch, and I'll watch it.

Hugs and Smoochie Kisses,
Dayna

<font face="comic sans ms"> Frank, I'll take a 7. I'm easy. ;) I will agree that the last of the movie :sigh: is the most moving part, and I will also agree that it was like a two-hour long video. For me that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm glad you watched it. I will watch Jean De Florette and Manon of the Spring (in order) for you. :D I wouldn't want to take a pot shot at some of your favorites. I know we have a lot of movies in common. Just not Moulin Rouge. Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all liked the exact same things?

Hugs,
Dayna

Hey Dayna, can this be our 'unofficial movie thread'?

I've been dying to ask if you guys liked these movies....we've recently rented them. They are movies that I thought I would HATE...but ended up liking.

A Knight's Tale.......I give it a 6. I love a good 'love story'. ;)

What WomenWant........I give it a 7. I really thought I'd hate it....but I ended up laughing myself silly! :D Imagine that!

Kate and Leopold........I give it a 6. Another cute 'love story'......but very 'corny'.

And we rented, but haven't watched The End of The Affair....which sounds really good.....is it?

One of the My favorite movies I thought I was going to dislike intensley is "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore...Excellent movie.
