Has anyone rented a little car in Key West?

I recall from our last trip that there were little 4-person cars in Key West. Has anyone had experience renting one for the day while in port? We have twin sons who will be almost 16 when we cruise over NYE. Thought it would be nice to just explore. We took the train tour last time.

Any suggestions are welcome!

We had the best time on Key west a few years ago. We rented a small "golf cart (looked like a beetle with no doors) and buzzed all over the island. We participated in an organized scavenger hunt that took us to some of the greatest sights on the island.

Of our four disney cruises, this was one of our most memorable excursions.

A while back I had a flydrive in Florida and drove to Key West we had a hotel which was about 5 mins drive to the centre of Key West i found that was the closest we could park and I would drop of my familiy and drive back.

On the DCL Magic we went around on the sightseeing (car) train that was good but it got held up every so often in bad traffic so I would not recommend car high.

Things of interest are close to the ship.

We rented a 4 person car in Key West in January 05. We found it very difficult to find parking when we wanted to stop and shop.
Our daughter was 3 at the time and we wished we would've had a stoller and just explored that way.
I'm sure you'll have a great day no matter what you choose.

I've never been to Key West. Is it possible to walk off the ship and explore, or does the ship dock far away from everything? I'm mostly interested in going to the Hard Rock (we collect the shirts) and Margaritaville (I'm a parrothead). Are these relatively close to the pier?

You mean the little golf cart type cars? If so, we have done this. It was a wonderful way to get around, the people renting them were excellent. Easy parking and lots of fun!
