Has anyone purchased a stair lift for your home ?

Would you share your experience ? Most sites just say, "we'll come out and blah blah blah" before you can find out cost.

Just thinking it would make it so much easier for DH.

I had written chair lift, but I meant the one for the stairs.

If you have a straight set of stairs you can buy a unit from Amazon or many other places. You can install it yourself. Any carpenter or home handyman can do it. You might have an outlet available or you may need a new outlet. A few thousand dollars plus installation.

If you need curves, that is to say you have one or more landings, you have two options. An on site inspection/survey with measurements is required.

Some vendors will fabricate a curved track to meet you configuration. It will come in few pieces and they will assemble it on site. There can be a delay depending on how long it takes to get the track.

At least one vendor does a site inspection but assembles the track with stock sizes. The straight comes in sizes down to 6 inches and even 1 inches. The curved sections are small. I don't remember if they come every degree or every other degree.
The installer has a list and diagram of what pieces are needed to assemble the track. Installation can be done as soon as it can be scheduled.

Think model train set.

Try to deal directly with the company and ask about discounts.

We have a stair lift that goes from our first floor to our basement.
It‘s best to deal with a local company because they will know what is required. In our state, we needed a building permit from the city and also a lift permit from the state. Both required inspections (which were done virtually).

Besides measuring the track, the company representative also had to look at electrical and make sure the location for electrical meets code.
