We did some cash nights at HHI. But wouldn't dream to do it at WDW as I'm quite willing to stay at a moderate resort for a much cheaper price.
However, we don't have small kids. I would ask yourself is it worth having a room available so the children can nap? Or will you be at the park all day so it won't matter when your room is available?
The Royal Rooms at POR are nice. But I still prefer CSR, nicer feature pool and more quiet pools near the buildings. Either resort can be a walk to the lobby/restaurants.
Thank you all for your advice. I ended up getting a Royal Room at POR. I think my DD4 will love the room (and dd11 but she wont admit it) and I have never been to the resort so it will be nice to check in and wander the grounds, swim and enjoy the room. We decided instead of going to the park first thing in AM and exhausting DD4 all day, hoping for a room early enough to get into at SSR for nap/unpack/freshen up, all just to get back to CM dinner by 5:15 would be kinda crazy.
We will instead sleep in, eat breakfast at food court while DH takes a quick trip to SSR to check in and get key cards. If our room is ready, he will come back and move luggage directly from our POR room to SSR room with taxi and we will unpack and head to MK around 1pm.
If the room isn't ready, he will just come back and I will just ask POR bell services to move it to SSR room, so when we get back that night, luggage will be waiting for us. We will take a POR bus over to MK around 11:30am.
Either option will give us some more time to enjoy POR and not exhaust the youngest. Since we always leave the parks for naps/swim on our trips, we never see the 3pm MK parade. So our plan is to just enjoy a late start MK day and not go commando - and watch the 3pm parade before dinner at CM

I appreciate the help!
