Has anyone made a one-day trip to WDW just to buy DVC?

I live in New York and want to buy into DVC at VWL. If I wait for New York to be approved to sell DVC through the mail, the price will jump from $72 to $75/point. I am also worried that New York won't be approved for mail sales for many months.

I expect to buy 250 points so if I fly down to WDW and keep the trip to under $750, I will save some money. I would need to fly down in April or May. I may stay over night or fly down and back the same day. If I stay overnight, I would love to stay at BWV and go to EPCOT in the evening.

Are there any WDW resort discounts that I could use for one night? Could I use points to stay one night? Would I be able to get some kind of discount to get into one of the parks for a day? Are there any other perks/discounts that I would be able to use?

I bet if you were to call a guide, tell him that you are buying 300+ points and want to fly down today or tomorrow to do it, he could make something happen. Maybe even get you an "Epcot after 4:00 ticket" or something. They will generally buy you a meal for your family as a matter of course. The resorts and managers have one day comp tickets usually meant to be handed to irate guests. Between this and that, I really bet they would make it worth your while.

I just re-read your post, 250 pts is enough above the minimum to make it a good sale. I bet that would be fine.....go now, get on the phone...you have to make plane reservation quick!!!! Lets us know if they were accomodating.

pooh&piglet, you might want to see if there is any chance you could stay using points. Perhaps if you go down and sign the paperwork first thing you could use points to stay. Can't hurt to ask!

we just returned yesterday from a two day trip to join DVC, also NY'ers. We have annual passes so didn't need to worry there, and we rented points and stayed at the VWL. It's just beautiful there and we can't wait to go as members. Our guide wasn't there upon our arrival, but another, Meghan, took care of our paperwork and we ended up with 200 pts. We were kind of hoping for some special treatment for flying down just to join - but aside from the very nice, patient and friendly atmosphere, we got a handshake and a smile.... oh, and a pin! We love the WL and the villas are just lovely. Can't wait to go in Oct.! We had great luck with the bus service to the parks, and took the boat over to MK one night for e-ticket night. It was pretty cool at night though and we left by 10pm. Good luck~!

I was told there was no discount but that I could convert my cash reservation over to points (IF I could get an available room).

I was able to book 3 nights starting on Easter Sunday (April 15) at VWL in a 1BR for myself, DW, & 18 month-old DD.

I am also able to take advantage of the $10/point MB which expires on April 15.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice the past few months. I'm almost there.

Are you sure the Magical Begs. program will not be changing until the 15th? We also live in NY are are going down on April 7th. We were told that it will change on the 31st.

The MB program is changing on March 31 from $10/point to $5/point. For anyone who signed up for the video and hardcover book in a while ago, the $10/point MB cutoff is April 15.

At least that's what my guide told me.

If you go on Easter Sunday and want to convert cash to using points, sign your papers that day and then go right to the front desk. If you sign on Monday, they will not let you convert a day you already stayed into points. I converted three days into my stay but the MB program at $10 made it a wash anyways. Do it right away!
