Has anyone looked into moving to the USA permanently before? Advice needed

Hi

Don't panic, I'm doing anything crazy, just got some hypothetical questions...

If DH and I were looking to move to America (my company's HQ is in North New York so I could probably quite easily transfer my job over there) and if I got either a Green Card or Permanent Citizenship, what would DH have to do to be able to come with me and also work over there?

I think (if I read it right) that I could apply for permanent citizenship on the basis of my work transferring me over there, and then he could apply for a Green Card as I would be a permanent citizen so as my DH he would be allowed to apply for a Green Card rather than permanent Citizenship.

Unless he got a job at my place in the UK and then he could also apply for a Citizenship on the basis that he was to be transferred.

Anyone ever looked into this before?

I almost followed this route a few years ago, so I'm not sure if anything will have changed since that.

I don't think you would automatically be entitled to a Green Card straight away. There is a particular Visa for internal company transfers to the States, and then after a few years, you can apply for a Green Card.

My understanding is that your DH would be eligible for a Visa on the back of yours, so you should both be able to go.

This prob isn't very helpful but I thought I'd post it anyway.

My friends brother in law moved to the USA when his Wife got a job over there and he had no problem getting in that I'm aware of but I don't know what they went on eg Green Card.
