Has anyone hired a minibus from one of the major car hire firms in the UK?

We want to hire a minibus to get us to Gatwick. There will be 8 of us plus luggage. I've looked at the websites of all those car hire companies onsite at Gatwick and none of them seems to do anything big enough.

Has anyone done this?

We want to drive it ourselves. We used a local firm to take us there (and back) a couple of years back, but we couldn't stand tootling along at 55-60 mph!

we looked at doing this for our trip on saturday but it worked out far more expensive than taking 4 cars up ourselves and paying for an overnight hotel/parking

also it meant not getting up so early on the day of the flight as we would travel upto gatwick the day before

and do twilight checkin !

Sam - YES! To be fair, Mal drove us back himself and he was OK, but on the way up we had a lady driver in a beaten up old van because he was out in his swish executive jobby on another trip! I'm not sure whether she was the tootler, or the van just couldn't go any faster!

Neil - where did you get quotes from? The cost isn't so much the issue, just availability.

the gatwick hotel / parking is through abc holiday extras

we only got a few quotes from local ramsgate firms deb

Thank goodness we're going up the day before then!

I'm hoping for the posh bus, but who knows
