Has anyone here taken their kids out of school for a disney trip?

We just took our 1st grader out for a week right before spring break to go. I dont regret it for a minute! We took homework, and i even told the teacher we'd read every night at bedtime... but we didnt do a single bit of school work! and thats ok!! its a vacation afterall, right? The teacher just laughed and said she knew it wouldnt happen! Of course, now i have to add that daughter is working above grade average blaugh, blaugh, blaugh. All that stuff you've heard over and over. here's the way I ask my kids tough questions like this: If you go home without doing this, will you regret it? At the beginning of the school year I would worry a little more than later on because they are getting all the teachers rules and routines down in that time... but honestly, they can catch up. If you can fly, think about the money compared to the kids catching up, and look in the mirror, and see what your reflection tells you. It works everytime! ;) Thats what money is for.

When we go on our Cruise in Oct'07, we'll be pulling our son out of 1st grade for about 6 days. I scheduled it for early in the school year so he has a chance to catch up, and I will be asking for Homework for him to do while gone.

Hi Starlette - I am right down the road from you in Spanaway!

Anyway, we took our soon out of school for a few days last time we went to DL. At the end of the month we are going for a week to WDW for the first time. So he will be missing a week. I think it is just a matter of whether you are ok with it and your children's school being ok with it. I spoke with my son's teacher a couple of weeks ago and she was thrilled and is excusing all work/tests that are suppose to be done in exchange for a journal of a few sentences and pictures to share with class. He is in the 2nd grade. So, whatever you decide have a great time -- as I know we will in FL. :wizard:

Hi Pdowning98! How cool to meet someone from my neck of the woods! :cool1:

We still haven't decided when we will make the trip to Disneyland. The more I think about it, I'm hating the idea of taking them out of school so early in the school year. I'll have to give this some more thought.

Have fun in WDW! When you get back you're going to have to tell us all about it! pixiedust:
