Has anyone gone to US with a positive result (after 14 days)instead of test?

Has anyone had this experience? Im curious to know if anyone has successfully entered without an antigen test and instead a positive covid test, am I understanding correctly that this would be acceptable for both entry to US as well as re entry to Canada? If so, is it just a lab result with date on it you have to bring? Thx!

From what I understand it has to be a PCR test and not a rapid antigen test. Also, for use to go to the States you need to have a letter from a doctor stating you have recovered.

Good point...thanks for that info. Putting that into the memory vault for those " what if "scenarios" of things that could happen before our trip!

You can travel within 90 days of recovering from Covid without getting any tests. However, you have to get a letter of recovery from your local public health unit.

Im assuming your doctor could provide a recovery letter? Is this a standard form, or just a letter from MD stating you are recovered?

I don’t know for certain but it’s my understanding that it has to be public health. Really what you need to do is read the rules/requirements on the government website.

I am in the middle of recovering from Omicron and last night thought “yay, now I don’t need to test for the next few months” so I looked into this too.

I assume a letter from a doctor is okay. Not sure how we would get a letter from public health in Manitoba.

You have to follow whatever the policy is with the federal gov. Last time I checked the rules it said you need a letter of recovery from your local public health.
I work in healthcare and public health is 100% in the drivers seat with regard to all the protocols we have at the moment. A move is not made without consulting them. So it makes sense that they would have to clear you.

The CDC provides information on the type of documentation the US would need for travel there: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html

And the Government of Canada provides information on the type of documentation that would be needed for entering Canada: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada

Note the specific requirements for each of the what the documentation has to contain. And of course, the documents are different for each country ! And subject to change.

Keep in mind their requirements for the documentation:

Providing proof of your result

When you arrive at the border, you must present an accepted negative molecular test result (paper or electronic proof) or proof of a previous positive molecular test result taken between 14 and 180 days (starting January 15, 2022, between 10 and 180 days ago) that includes:

• Traveller name and date of birth
• Name and civic address of the laboratory/clinic/facility that administered the test
• The date on which the test was taken
• The type of test taken
• The test result

Keep proof of your test results with you for the 14-day period that begins on the day you enter Canada.
