there is another thread on this board here talking about an outbreak of some nasty virus down at WDW. i know there are probably a ton of things floating around all the time, and last january, we got some terrible stomach bug. just wondering if this is as widespread as the thread seems to suggest.

I was there last week and nobody got sick. We all had sinus and cold issues before we went and were taking Vitamin C but we had a great trip.

We were there from 12/10-12/15 and my daughter got it on 12/14 in the afternoon. She was fine by the next evening to fly home. She got sick while she was in the park, made it to the bus (she was alone at the time) I won't go into details, but she just barely made it off the bus before losing her lunch.

Besides the vomiting, she had a fever of 104 (she runs high fevers all the time)

We rarely get sick at the parks, but we always make sure we wash our hands, and use a travel wipe or alcohol gel before meals. We were in WDW Dec 3 to Dec 12, and didn't notice nearly as many "obviously ill" people as we have on previous trips, bit the parks seemed a lot more crowded than normal for this time of year.

I feel so sorry for all the people who got this while on vacation. I have been sick with the flu and now pneumonia. I am hoping to be all better by our trip in 2 1/2 weeks. It would be really awful if this virus was still rampant down there and we got that too.

We were there 12/14-12/21 and we didn't get sick. We stayed the last 2 nights at SSR and didn't see anyone vomiting anywhere.

Likely the same one you hear about on cruises as it's so hard to kill (Norwalk as mentioned on that thread). It could also be Rotavirus and/or others.

We were there 12-6 through 12-13. We came home on Sat and Monday morning I came down with something (vomiting) and a fever of 101 roughly. It lasted for 2 days and then I had a bad sore throat and no voice for another 2-3 days. It was a great time!

A friend of mine who works in a hospital thought I had the Norwalk virus. Who knows! All I know is that I was thankful that I didn't get it at WDW! DH said he would have left me behind!!!

We were there same time as you.....didn't get sick, but we thought the parks were great, very empty. We walked on everything..literally, most things never had to wait more than 5 min., no fast passes needed
Someone did throw up in the lobby of the Grand Floridian on Dec. 8th

We were there 12/6 - 12/13. My 4 year old DS got sick first night there, around 11 pm. He felt better the next morning. My 6 year old DS got sick Monday morning at Bomas. He felt better later that evening so we went to Epcot. The virus didn't even last 24 hours. If you get sick at WDW, that is the illness to get. Everything else went fine. Myself, DW, and 18 month old did not get the virus. We missed 1/2 day at Epcot and Spectro Magic parade because of my sons' sickness, not too bad.

We were there from Dec 13-19 and I wound up at Celebration Hospital with food poisoning on tuesday morning, after throwing up ALL NIGHT LONG.

We know it's not a virus because after 2 IV bags of fluid and a double dose of zofram (that stuff is awesome, btw) I was back in the park on wed, a little slower but feeling fine. According to the er doc, a virus will knock you out for longer.

We think it was the cherry danish in AK in Africa, it was the only thing that I did not share with our family (we're one of those families that everyone eats off of everyone elses plates) and I wear hand sanitizer on a loop on my lanyard so I was pretty sterile when I ate the danish.

Interestingly enough, the LAST time we got food poisoning was also from that same area in Animal Kingdom, except that time it was my husband and younger daughter who had shared food from there. That was July 2007.

Use your hand sanitizer and avoid foods that sit out at room temp like danish...

We were there from Dec 6 - 14 and my son got some kind of bug Wednesday the 10th. He was up all night throwing up and then had diahrea the rest of the vacation. It hit him fast.

Stayed at SSR from 11/30-12/5 and DH was sick the entire time. Got home and the following week, DS2 had the bug. I never got it. We live in Orlando and our Pediatrician said there was a bad stomach bug floating around.

Kickapoo: Did Celebration actually make a food "poisoning" diagnosis and inform the Health Department for an investigation???

Odd thread and reminds me when we were there last year in Nov 2007 we all had the same thing hits about day 4 or 5. Started with my daughter, than Mom than the boys, myself and wife. Lasted for just about 24hrs, then we all felt better...but tired. Doubtful it was food poision as we all ate at different places and different things to eat. Interesting to hear this is a common thing.
