Has anyone ever received a refund from Song for a canceled flight??

I'm considering canceling just the return portion of our Song flight because we have an option for another return flight with a different airline that will get us home on a Sunday rather than a Monday (works MUCH better with work schedules and school). I know Song will issue a credit voucher that can be used within a year of purchase but I highly doubt we'll be able to use that voucher within a year - is there any chance of getting a refund if I write to them? I know they've filed bankruptcy so maybe that would limit my chances even more of getting a refund rather than a credit??

I doubt you will have much success with the refund request. I would not think bankruptcy is going to change their rules.

Actually if you cancel half of a ticket that was booked on a round trip fare you could actually wind up paying more. Some tickets are sold as round trip deals and cancelation of the return might bump you to a full fare one way. I would call and ask some questions. It depends on your fare class.

If they have a schedule change you might be able to get a refund of the entire fare and start over.

Airlines almost never refund nonrefundable fares. Even SW is reluctant to do so unless you get a particularly kind customer service rep. As CarolA points out, if you are traveling on a discounted fare that requires round-trip travel, there may be no value at all in cancelling the return portion of the flight.

I would make this decision assuming you'll never get anything back from Delta. Is it worth it to just pay the extra to come back on Sunday? Anything you do get back from them (even in the form of a credit for a future flight) should be viewed as a bonus.

Edited to add: if you decide it is worth it, and Delta tries to tell you that they will charge you more if you cancel the return flight, don't cancel it, but just don't fly it.

Song will not refund your money (and would not have, even before they filed).

On the other hand, Song's fares do not rely on round-trip purchase, i.e. your outbound fare will not increase if you cancel your return flights.

I already called Song and they said I could cancel the return portion with no additional charge and that they would issue a travel voucher. It's only going to cost $140 for the 3 of us to fly to Portsmouth, NH via Allegiant Air out of Sanford. Our car will be parked there anyway because we're taking a bus to Logan and the bus station is located at the airport in Portsmouth so it couldn't work out any more perfect. I've also called Alamo and they said there won't be any additional charge to drop at Sanford instead of MCO. The way I figure it is that it will cost us close to $140 to stay the extra night after our cruise between the hotel and meals so we're really not going to be out anything even without a refund from Song (and we'll at least have a travel voucher that we can try to put to use) plus this way our daughter doesn't miss another day of school and my DH and I won't have to use another vacation day. We're spending 6 nights in Orlando prior to the cruise so our only reason for spending that extra night was due to flight schedules. Of course, if I could get a refund from Song rather than a voucher I would be even more happy but it sounds like that's not likely. I am going to hold off a bit canceling our return flight with Song in case they do some schedule changes/cancellations due to the bankruptcy.

Okay, I don't think they're going to make any drastic enough schedule changes that they'll give you a refund and I'm sure I already know the answer to this but - call them back and see if you can use the vouchers to purchase Gift Certificates. According to Delta's website, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are (of course) among the few states where you can't buy Delta GCs, but you might be able to do it in Florida! Then you could exchange the Gift Certificates with somebody for considerations approximately equal in value. NOT sell them, you understand. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
