Has anyone ever HOPED for bad weather so your cruise will go somewhere else??

I was just reading another post that asked about a recent hurricane (which ultimately didn't affect the Magic's itinerary), and I was just wondering if any of you had actually hoped you might end up somewhere other than where you were scheduled to go!

I for one am disappointed that the western Magic doesn't go to Ocho Rios, and would love to see it get diverted there! Being 'forced' to climb Dunn's River Falls would be awesome! :)

Any other 'blessings in disguise' you have experienced or hoped for????

because i am a compulsive planner, i have not ever wished that the ship be diverted to a different port due to bad weather...

I see it as an adventure if I don't know where we will end up. I have been a compulsive planner, but now I just let things happen as they may. It may be kind of neat to have a mystery tour.

I would not be terribly upset if our cruise got diverted. It is vacation and we are there to RELAX> I dohave to disagree with the Ocho Rios comment. I stayed there for 10 days a couple of yeaars ago, and I have never been to a more horrible place. Dunns River falls is beautiful and the climb was fun but the people there are horrible. I have never been hasseled like that in my life ( and I have been to many forign countries) It is a poor and pitiful place that I did not feel safe in. I would not get off of the ship if we were to get diverted to this port. However, there is pleanty onboard to occupy me!

After 6 DCL cruises, I would love it if we were diverted for one reason or another. I am always up for an adventure and would love the surprise!!!! Just being on the ship makes me happy!!

While I can't say that I have hoped for bad weather, a mystery cruise would be fun and exciting. I am always up for a port we haven't been to.

First cruise ever last October and we were diverted to SanJuan, Puerto Rico. We missed out on St. Martin BUT we got to do Castaway Cay TWO times on our 7-day cruise! I probably would not hope to get diverted because I may not be happy with where we ended up (like the cruisers last year that went to Charleston) but our experience last year was fun.

Beano, you're a nut! :p

I'd be a little nervous about where exactly we'd end up on short notice. But ... wouldn't a 'planned' mystery cruise be fun? If Disney has the stops planned, but don't tell the passengers, then you know the ports were at least considered 'vacation friendly' enough to have been chosen. Yep, a 14 day mystery cruise. The perfect Christmas gift for all of you seasoned DCL vets.

Two or three years ago we ended up at St. Lucia in place of a different port (cant remember which one) because of a hurricane which had hit the other port (I think st thomas??).

WISH we went to st thomas. I thought st lucia was awful. We didnt do an excursion, maybe that was our downfall.....Still fun to see somewhere different though :-) Didnt really matter because we were on a cruise in the caribbean..LOL, so i didnt really care where we went!

Bemily -

Was there something in particular that you didn't like about St. Lucia? We were thinking about going there in October 2003. Would love to hear an opion about it.

Hey beano,

You ARE a nut!! I always love your posts!

However, if you have truly never been to OchoRios and climbed Dunnes River Falls, I would not count myself too unlucky.

Been there, done that, and I too can say we have never been more hassled by locals. If you can envision being packed in with say a hundred thousand other cruisers, and herded up the falls, as fast as possible, all while supposedly clinging to the person in front of and in back of you with each hand in some sort of twisted human chain..... I am sitting here cracking myself up just remembering this!!!!

I was on the Mystery Cruise last year, and we thought that it was really neat not knowing where we would be going. When they told us we were going to Castaway Cay on Day 2, that just thrilled us. Disney is going to need to mix it up a little in the future to keep getting the repeat business. They should advertise a mystery cruise. I'd trust them to take me somewhere different and fun.

From everything that I have read about this island, you really need to take an excursion.

We were diverted from Castaway Cay a couple of years ago and spent our extra day at sea. This year our cruise went as scheduled, so we did finally get to go to Castaway. While an extra sea day wasn't awful at all, now that I now what I missed I sure wouldn't HOPE for it.

I ALSO was on that October mystery cruise. I didn't hope for BAD weather ( which we GOT- a few ROUGH sea days) BUT I DID hope for a different itinerary, which we GOT and I LOVED it. I had NO desire to see St. Maarten, and we didn't have to see it. We saw San Juan- which I enjoyed. We rented a car and went sightseeing. We had a lovely time. And Castaway Cay TWICE? Wow... Would LOVE that again. But next year, we'll get a different itinerary on the Western, and I'm really looking forward to ALL the places we're going and don't want THAT cruise any different than it is...
