Has anyone ever dined here? It's the newest restaurant at the Contemporary hotel.

Thoughts?

I did not eat there but I stopped in on my way from Mk to Epcot to check it out. Sent the kids to the arcade and DH and I sat at the bar and tried the beer sampler. It's an organic brewery out of Orlando and we were so excited to hear that Disney was finally getting new beer selections in. The atmosphere seems upscale/trendy and there are two rather dark rooms behind the bar with intimate candlelit seating. The waitress was extremely nice and the presentation of the beer sampler was great - but the beer was just so-so. The appetizer menu looked fine but everything seemed a bit pricey. Checked out the dining room and it was very nicely decorated. Sorry - no food to comment on!

Here's a review of The Wave from the (recently) former food critic of the Orlando Sentinel:

Click on the DISNEY Category and it's the review from August 8, 2008.

We stopped in and had apps and drinks one night a couple weeks back.

The apps were absolutely delicious. We can't wait to go back and try a full meal.

OK..just checked out what Scott Joseph had to say. Have to say, this is another of his reviews that I don't agree with. The lettuce wraps is one of the things we ordered that night.
We thought wow lamb/scallop lettuce wraps. Gotta Try them...they were fantastic all the way around. Would highly recommend them.

We also had the bean soup...again, totally outstanding.

The bar area is beautiful, and we found the dining room to be very elegant in and understated way.

Don't let Scott's review discourage you. There were six of us and we were all pleased. There is an extensive wine list, some great, great wines on the list.
Pretty soon everything will be screw cap, maybe that will make Scott happier, lol.

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion but FWIW, the 1 comment on the Scott Joseph review is from me.

Hubby and I won't be going back. YMMV.

I just ate there Sunday night. I thought it was pretty good. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, it was OK. For dessert I had three mini desserts, they were good. The best part of my meal was the drink I had. The Passion Fruit drink with a changing color ice cube!
It is not as good as the Concourse used to be though. I miss that restaurant. Overall I thought The Wave was OK, however I am not in a hurry to go back. I am going to WDW in December, and I do not have ADR for The Wave.
Our waitress though, was very good!!

Here's the review I just wrote on allears

We had dinner here on August 12, and were seated right on time for our 5:55 reservation. We are a family of five.

The food and atmosphere here are excellent. I had the fish which was just amazingly good. Even the kids' pizza is unique and not the typical Disney kids meal pizza. Desserts are creative and unusual and very good.

The decor is very upscale and elegant looking.

The only negative we experienced was our server. She was pleasant and prompt and refilled my iced tea. However, she seemed more concerned with her tip than anything.

First, when we arrived, she asked if we were on the dining plan, and when I said we were, she asked to see my card. That's not so unusual as a few other servers did so during our trip too. But this one KEPT the card. It took me a few minutes to realize it (and she'd left the table by this point), so when I asked her later if she still had it she informed me that she was going to keep it during the meal and return it later. Now I'm not sure what the purpose of that is, and I do not appreciate it. I never have to hand over my Visa or American Express to the server at my local restaurant, so I'm not sure what she wanted it for or why she felt that she had a right to hold it while we ate.

When my husband and son said they only wanted ice water for their drinks, she brought them that but then also brought two $6.50 bottles of Evian bottled water for them to go. They did not ask for those and did not want them, but she added them to the bill which I'm sure was an attempt by her to get her tip increased. This was the second action by her that I did not appreciate.

Finally, she is the only server to point blank ask me how I intended to pay the gratuity, and whether I was going to pay cash or charge it to the room--this while she was still keeping my room key somewhere. I know with the dining plan the tips are not included; the receipts say so very clearly. However, I never had any server except for her make a point to ask about it. This, on top of the Evian water thing and keeping my card, was just over the top in my opinion.

She was an attentive server, but again, her attitude bothered me. I hope the management of the Wave deals with this type of behavior by its servers because it's not appropriate.

Scott doesn't work for the Sentinel any more, so it won't really matter.

I am hoping to try this restaurant on my trip next month, but I have a question . . .After being used to the bright open spaces of the 4th floor, do you feel like you're in an underground dungeon when you're in there? I like a restaurant with a view, especially since many of my trips are solo and need things to look at without staring at the other diners. I'm sure it's fine if you're traveling with others, as the conversation would keep you occupied. Just curious . . . .

The Wave has no windows, uses indirect lighting and the walls were relatively bare. Our comment when we ate there was that they spent all the money on entry/waiting/bar area and then had to go bare bones on the rest of the space.

However you COULD spend your meal staring at the 2 doors that are about 3/4 into the room, which aren't connected to anything...they looks VERY bizarre and it took a while before we figure out what they were there for.

But otherwise no, once you're in the dining room, it's not a very visually exciting restaurant.
