Just wondering if anyone has ever done a point transfer swap with another DVC member to be able to take advantage 11 month booking window at the other's home resort?

If so, how did you find someone to swap with and how did it work out?

I have not swapped but have transferred points to another member so he could use my 11 month booking at BWV (I think he owned OKW). There's no reason this should not work. I would suggest trying a conference call with all parties on-line to complete the transfers simultaneously. Of course, both parties have to have something to offer and I don't think SSR would work since booking there at 7 months is rather straight forward. However, this might work well between VWL, BCV and BWV owners.

Actual point swaps won't work. If you receive points into your account, you are not allowed to transfer points out, and if you transfer point out you're not allowed points in, from any one during the remainder of your use year. The way to accomplish this is to trade "reservations" with someone. If there is a difference in the number of points between the ressies, appropriate compensation (if any) is at the sole discretion of the two parties involved. Basically, you'll be renting reservations from each other.

Point transfers are "one way" transactions during a given use ear.

What I did this year was contact a friend of mine who has BWV points and he made the reservation for me so I could get a Standard View room in August. Once the reservation was made, we conferenced called with MS and I transferred the appropriate number of points to his contract. That way he was able to speak with MS and tell them exactly into which contract he wanted them transferred.

He was actually able to bank my transferred points immediately while we were on the phone (we had the same use year and were close to 100% banking deadline).

It worked perfectly for us, and when I called MS to add N/S for medical reasons, they had no problem finding my reservation.

Sorry - you're correct. I suppose you could still do it if both parties had multiple contracts though. I know it's not based on account but rather based on your contract(s).

How do you know this? Is it just from experience, or is it written down somewhere? (It would be anice to have a handbook explaining all of these things...)

What prompted my wondering about all of this was for our next trip, which isn't until December '06 we'd like to stay at either BCV or BWV. I know that VWL is very hot at Christmas, so had wondered how it would work if I found someone who's home resort was either BCV or BWV swapping with me and my VWL.

Only if they were separate contracts of a single owner.

Written rules in the Multi Site POS but only in the later editions as the rules have changed. In he past it was one in or one out. Now it's multiple in one direction but only one direction per use year.

The problem with this plan is that the DVC computer system can't track the points. They will essentially assume your home resort when they are traded in. And as such will lose the original home resort priority. MS can track them manually but it takes a couple of days. That robs you of the most important reservations you need to do this way, the ones that require day by day calls.

I'd simply reserve VWL and then call day by day at 7 months.

Hi,I am a BCV and VWL owner.I am trying to accomplish what you are.I am looking for someone to switch ressies with.I have 140 but need 180.Each studio would be 60 points.I need it for Dec 3-8 at VWL.Would you be willing to make a ressie for VWL and me make one for BCV for Dec for you?I just need one studio for 60 points.

That was my original plan. Since the the 11 month window is coming up for me on Monday, I'll start booking VWL for our trip.

Dean - always such sound advice. Since my attempts at doing a reservation swap has not panned out, I'm going to do exactly what you say. I'm booking VWL and then at 7 months might try to change. I mean, VWL at the holidays is hardly what I would call a hardship. We simply wanted to do something different, and as always thought of walking into the the lobby of WL, the dramatic space (not to mention the spectacular holiday decorations) and the music does bring a smile to my face.

Not a bad fall back plan, LOL. Glad to help though I bet everyone else reading this thread was screaming the same thing.

I was just speaking to my husband about the same thing, but going the opposite way. I do eventually want to stay at WLV during December because it sounds beautiful and thought that maybe we could trade a week reservation at BWV, thinking someone might be interested in it for F&W or whenever.

It's great to see that this is an option. I am currently in the process of calling day by day to book 1BR BWV Boardwalk View. Tuesday we will get our final two nights. Since this will be our first time staying in a boardwalk view, I cannot bring myself to trade this year, however, 2007 will be a different story. Keep me in mind.
