Has anyone ever done a spur of the moment trip??? **UPDATE**

I've done a last minute trip to Disneyland and I actually quite liked it.

Some other parents from school were going to the US and were talking about Disneyland. I just out of boredom was online checking flights to LA one night and there was a crazy VAustralia ticket for about $425 for adult, $300 and something for kids! So I just opened another safari window and popped onto the Disney website and checked if there was accommodation and there was. So I popped back onto Virgin website and booked our tickets, sent an email to my US travel agent and booked the accommodation that night. Next day quickly called the dog kennel to book the dog in, organised the travel insurance.

Next night hopped on and booked Disney Express pickup from the airport, bought our tickets online, 14 day passes and one annual pass (for the discounts and that we were there for two weeks). Booked a couple of tours with Grayline, Legoland and San Diego Zoo. Called Disneyland vacation plannng, told them where we wanted to eat and they made all of our ADR's for the trip, they booked fantasmic for me and presented me with the itinerary of ADR's and fantasmic tickets on arrival. I ordered groceries from Vons to be delivered to the hotel the day of our arrival. Started packing and we were on the plane 4 days after my impulse investigation online that fateful night!!!!!!

It was fantastic, great trip. I am an obsessive planner but I still got my obsessive planning done :rotfl2: Just in a very quick way :rotfl2:

Go for it I say :thumbsup2.

Was that for your 2009 trip? We had the same price for tickets, we weren't going to do it, then we were, then we weren't and we finally decided to definitely NOT do it, that night we booked the flights :rotfl: It was the last night of the sale. :yay:

Sooooooo, I have just booked my spur of the moment trip. I know it is not as spur of the moment as it was going to be because I have been procrastinating about it for about 3 or 4 weeks........but today I bit the bullet!!!!!

So we are leaving on the 24th of October (16 more sleeps) and coming home on the 7th of November. It will be 2 weeks of just pure Disneyland. I still have my AP from last year to get merch and dining and hopefully Trick or Treat Party ticket discounts. I think I got a great deal - all flights with V Aust, 14 nights accommodation at Best Western Stovalls (love Hojo but this one had to be a bit more of a budget trip due to the lack of saving time :rotfl: ), 2 x 14 day passes and travel insurance all for less than $5500.

I won't be telling the kids about this beforehand. I am taking a leaf out of lovintheland's book and won't tell them until they get up the morning of when we leave. It is a Monday, so they will get up and start getting ready for school, at which point I will tell them that they don't need to put their uniforms on today as we are going somewhere special.

As for the Christmas 2012 trip, I will just see how I go with still being able to do it. Life is too short and I think I just had to sieze the moment. If we can go back next year, awesome, if not, I don't think I will regret it. I adore Christmas at Disneyland but, right now, I just really need to be in my happy place :)

I am also firing up my blog from last year, so if anyone else is interested in having a read of it just PM me and I will send you the link.

I am actually a bit stunned as this has all happened really fast (trust me, if you knew me you would understand that I am totally not a fly by the seat of my pants kinda gal) but I am hoping that the excitement will kick in shortly. :dance3:

Now to prepare for all the eye rolls as I tell friends and family that we are going for the 3rd time in 3 years - personally I just think they are all jealous LOL :lmao:

We did that too. It's so much fun. There was a knock on the front door and there was a huge present outside. The kids opened it and helium balloons flew out and there was a letter inside from Mickey mouse telling them to get dressed because a taxi is on it's way to take them to Disneyland. They were so excited. We're doing it again this year.

Will be sending you a pm for the link.. I love reading about other peoples trips

I've just read all your blog from the last trip, I love that you got to try all the Starbucks 'seasonal' specials, it is one thing I miss about Starbucks no longer having stores here.

Did your Cider make it home safely?

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you. Hubby and I were actually watching video's on Youtube yesterday about people surprising their kids with Disney trips and were reminicing about when we did it last year, and he said "I hope we can do that to them again one day", too fun!!

Can't wait to read all about it :)

Toy Story, the cider did make it home safely and it was only about a week or 2 ago that we finished the last one. So I am thinking that this trip comes at the perfect time to stock up on more spiced cider.......love that stuff

A teacher at school made reference to them going away and they had no idea about what he was talking about and so they came home and asked if we are going on holidays. I quickly changed the subject and they haven't mentioned it since. Stupid big mouth teacher!!!!! so as far as I am aware they have no idea and especially no idea where we are going even if they suspect that we are going away.

Thanks for sending me your blog :thumbsup2

I'll live vicariously through you at least for the next couple of weeks!

How exciting!
