Vancouver or Seattle?

We are planning a holiday for next year and we want to go somewhere different. We have always said that we would eventually go to Seattle and looking on the map Vancouver does not seem to far away?

Any information would be great :)

LOL my mum was trying to convince us to go there this christmas, i would be interested to hear more about it.

I'm sure they're not that far apart - perhaps someone on the Canadianboard could help you.

I am going to Vancouver in February. My sis is emigrating there this coming year (probably May/June) permanently and I will follow her about one year later.

I can tell you that it's about 2-3 hrs drive from one to the other. About 250 miles. There is a border crossing at Sumas. I certainly plan on visiting Seattle too once I live in Vancouver. (Well technically Fraser Valley).

If you need any info, please PM me.

Vancouver looks amazing and it has the 2010 olympics so another amazing reason for me to go there.

Personally, I can't wait to get out of this country.

We spent three nights in Vancouver this summer as part of our Only-Two-Weeks-To-See-British-Columbia trip ;).

On arrival in Vancouver we were very impressed - it's a city with some outstanding features - but, to be honest, we felt that three nights was plenty for us. Of our four BC destinations (also visited Whistler, Victoria and a small town on Vancouver Island), Vancouver was our least favourite. Having said that, I suppose I didn't have the city-scene as top of my reasons for visiting Canada.

We found plenty to do and see and can recommend Granville Island, Lonsdale Quay and Stanley Park from the 'tourist' list. Our experience of Chinatown was less successful! The Capilano suspension bridge is also worth a visit, although a short distance from the city centre.

Friends of ours had a side trip of a few nights in Vancouver from Seattle, and found the journey easily manageable in a few hours. They said they preferred Seattle!

Been to Seattle twice, mainly because I went on two cycling tours with a company based in the Pacific Northwest and that was the start/finish point for both of them.

It is a beautiful city as long as you don't mind walking up and down a few hills! There's not as much to do as in a city like New York, but there's still plenty of sights to keep yourself occupied such as the Space Needle and all the related exhibits from the World's Fair nearby, Pike Place Market and everything down by the bay, plus if you get bored with the city, take a trip up to Mount Rainier which they do organised coach tours of from the city - it's only about two hours away and it's beautiful up there.

I feel the same as Hilary regards Vancouver, I just didn't take to it, but I know a lot of people love the city.

Tell us what you decide to do :)

Hi guys thanks for all the replies. Sorry I have not replied sooner all the computers in work died and have only just been restored.

I think i will definitely go to both, I tend to like going on city breaks and we will most probably do 4 nights in each to justify the length of the flight.

John, I will definitely send you a pm when I know when we are going.
