Hi,

We are going to be driving to Denver, CO next month and will get in on Oct. 7 and I seen that's the Avalanche's first game at home ice. Disney and Hockey are what I love most( I know odd combo, but it's true)! Anyway I have always wanted to go to a live NHL game and that this would be the prefect time!!!

Anyway we don't know a lot about the area and I was wondering how safe the Denver area is at night, since the game would start at 7:30 or 8:00 p.m.
I guess I should say how safe would it be for two woman to be down at the Pepsi Center( where they play) at night?

We are also going be going to the Denver Zoo and to some shops there, that we don't have here in Rapid City.

Thanks for any info. you can give us!:goodvibes

Sorry I can't help you with your questions about the area, but you MUST go to a live NHL game!!! As a hockey fan, there is nothing like it in the world. Have a great time!!

I live in NoCo and have been to several Avs games and many events at the Pepsi Center. You should be totally fine in the area at night. There isn't a ton within reasonable walking distance of the center, so the vast majority of people are just looking to get from the parking lot to the game. I would pay more to park in one of the closer lots if you're worried about safety. Have a blast!

Thanks, this helps a lot!

So does the Pepsi Center have there own parking ramp, that you could pay to park in? And do you know about how much it would cost?

Also does the Avs have a gift shop, that would be open during the game?

One more question~

We are staying at Drury Hotel in Englewood, CO

From our hotel, how long do you think it would take us to get to the Pepsi Center?

Former season ticket holder here. Should be a good game the Blackhawks v. the Avs.

You'll be safe at the Pepsi Center, if you drive just park at one of the lots at the Pepsi Center (search Pepsi Center and you will find the web site with a lot helpful info and maps). The gift shop is open before and after the game.

Since you are staying at the Drury in Englewood you will be driving North on I-25 during rush hour so you will need to allow plenty of time (I am not sure how much time though) to get to the game.

That game starts at 8-allow an hour to get to the arena and get parked and in-if you are bit early-get something to eat and relax a bit before the game-realistically-you wont be-we used to live in the North Metro and would leave home an hour and a half early-i cant stand to be late for anything. Parking at the Pepsi Center will cost you between 10 and 20 dollars depending on the lot you choose to park in. Definately not a problem for two women together if you are just going to park at the area and go to the game. if i were going to eat downtown i would park close the to resturant which will mean moving your vehicle either before or after the game-but it will be more comfortable for you.

Yep, I've seen the Avalanche at both the Pepsi Center and old McNichols Arena. (And also at Le Colisee in Quebec).

The area around the Pepsi Center is safe. There are several close
by parking lots. You won't have any problems.

Can't help with the Denver Zoo. Never been there.

Enjoy the Avalance game!!

Jim

Yes, we've gone as a family and really enjoyed it!

Everyone has answered everything so far, but yes, there is a great gift shop in the Pepsi Center that is open before, during and after the game.

Also, walking to and from your car is no biggie since you will be in with the hoards of others walking to and from :)

There are tons of great restaurants just south of your hotel near the Park Meadows Mall. Just go south on I-25 and exit on the County Line exit and drive straight through the light at the end of the exit into the mall area and restaurants around the perimeter. It is just 5 min from your hotel.

Have fun!

Thanks so much everyone, for all the great info.!!!:goodvibes

I am so excited now, I wish it was Oct. already!!! LOL

If you don't want to drive to the game, you can take the Lightrail to get to the Pepsi Center which is very convenient and safe (plus you won't have to deal with rush hour traffic). It's about a block away from your hotel at the Dry Creek Light Rail Station where you can either park at the lot or if you like to walk, you can walk. The Lightrail drops you off right outside the Pepsi Center and many people take this option so you wouldn't feel like you were by yourself. I have gone to games many times and do this route by myself to meet up with friends down there. The lightrail will also take you downtown where you can eat before or after the game if you would like. To get to the Pepsi Center from the Dry Creek stop, you will only need to take the E Line. To get downtown from your hotel, you will want to take the F Line.

This is an AWESOME idea!!!:goodvibes Thanks so much!:thumbsup2

You'll have a fabulous time! Light rail is the way to go, and there is a light rail stop at Dry Creek, near your hotel. It will cost much less to do that then park downtown. It will be busy & crowded coming back, though. Park Meadows is just down south an exit from Dry Creek on County Line and I-25, and is a great suburban shopping mall. (Nordstrom, American Girl, Coach, Gap, Gymbo, etc.) For something a bit more upscale, try Cherry Creek Mall at University and Speer (lots closer to downtown). http://www.shopcherrycreek.com/ http://www.parkmeadows.com/

Denver Zoo is great fun. Make sure you plan for at least 3 hours to see it all. The Museum of Nature and Science is right next door...if you're up for a full day, hit it, too. http://www.denverzoo.org/ http://www.dmns.org/

Have a great time!
