I really love the sail away parties. On my last cruise, I was constantly telling my sweetie how much fun we would have at the sail away party. Because this was his first cruise, he also was looking forward to it. We however, decided to go to our room and rest awhile.Well, not only did we go to sleep, but when we woke up it was about 10pm! Apparently the ship was over 1 hour late leaving port because a passenger had to be taken to hospital. People later told us about this long party they had waiting to leave the port. After it finally set sail, the ship had to turn around about 1/2 hour out, and go BACK to the port for yet another passenger that had to be hospitalized also! This little boy ended up getting better after 4 days (his aunt was on the ship and told us) All this was going on, with update announcements and all, and we slept right through it:eek: Pizza and salad was dinner later that night, because we missed the dinner times. Has anyone else who intended to go missed the sailaway?
If so, what happened? ps... just a thought.. I'll bet BD sleeps good tonight after driving all night from NY to get to the ship.

Did you miss the lifeboat drill? I would be more worried about missing that and holding up all of those people standing out there squished in the hot sun wearing those big uncomfortable lifevests while they call my room number and I never show up than missing the party!

A friend of mine went on a cruise and for some reason the CM never checked off their number even though they were there and they got a very nasty letter about it.

We missed the sailaway party on our first cruise because we didn't even realize there was one.We were on deck 4 watching the ship leave port.
Made it on our second cruise and it was fun .

Lisa F... No, we did not miss the drill. We are very aware of the importance of the lifeboat drill, so that is out of the question for me. That is when we took our nap, after we went back to the room to take our vests. We figured that we would just "lay down for awhile". I think you never realize how tired that you really are from all of the travel and getting up early to get to Florida .
surfergirl.. Glad you were able to make the next one. I love to see everyone having so much fun. I can't wait to hear the DCL horn. It must be awesome.

My friends didn't miss the drill either, they were there (and so surprised to get a VERY nasty letter about it!) All of that standing around, squished in a line without being able to turn your head because you're jammed into that lifevest takes a lot out of you, I can see why you'd want a nap afterwards.

If you want to REALLY hear the horn blow, stand up by the basketball courts on deck 10. WOW, loud!

We missed the sailaway party on our first DCL cruise because it was pouring rain, and they moved it inside and we couldn't find it.
Later found out it was spread between the clubs and the atrium. We also did not miss the safety drill.
Sailing on our 4th DCL in 34 days, can't wait.

On our first cruise, which we just took this summer, DH and I were at the very back of the ship with my 2 brothers and SILs (It was Royal Caribbean's Nordic Empress), and we spent the entire afternoon back there having our own private sail away party. We had a lot of fun, but now that I look back, I wish I would've at least walked to the middle of the top deck to check out the official sail away party. So now that's one of the things I am really looking forward to on our Disney cruise next year . We'll have DSs with us this time, so that'll be special, to experience the sail away party with them :)

We missed the sail away party on our very first cruise too. Like Surfergirl we didn't know about it. But we were up on deck 10 forward waving to everyone at the restaurants. Since then we ALWAYS read the Navigators carefully and advise everyone to do the same.

:)

We missed it as well. I don't even know why. We went to the drill and I think we came back and rested in our cabin. We had been to Disney World before the cruise and were exhausted! Planning on getting to go to it this time though!

We missed the last one but I plan to be at the next one.:smooth:

We missed our sailaway party too! We were tired from being at Disneyworld and honestly we didn't know about it. But next trip we aren't missing it.

With so many people not knowing about these sail away parties, I wonder if cruise lines announce that it is getting ready to start?
I don't remember if I have ever heard it on CCL. I know it is in the navigators, but some people don't read them right away.
